Solar Eclipse April 8, 2024. I was more interested in the world around me than looking at the sun. The timing worked out for me to stop by Muskingum Valley Park District-Mission Oaks Gardens after I was working at a job site this morning to take nature photos. All of these photos were taken during the time the sun was partially to almost fully covered by the moon. Normally, I do adjustments to photos before posting them. To keep the accuracy, these are straight off the camera. Here is what I observed:
- There were way more birds, insects, and animals around than I normally see. They were busy and active.
- The energy felt strange and caused a feeling of anxiety.
- The light was muted, but not like clouds. I wanted to turn the lights on to see.
- The sky was gray like what you'd expect an apocalypse sky to look like and had a dullness to it. It didn't have the crystal clear quality that normal sky blue skies have.
- My camera shutter was slower and kept trying to switch to 'night mode' to balance the lower light. (Yes, I keep it on auto, don't judge.) So, some of the photos have a blur to them.
- People were honking their car horns here and there, I assume because others were stopping in the roadways.
- The three photos that are the closest to full coverage are the silhouetted bird in the trees, the sneaky pic of the sun through the trees, and the turtles, which were looking at the eclipse and moving their head around curiously.
- It felt like the world's biggest block party. But, slightly scary. lol
The end of my observations. It's been cool seeing your photos, the more professional photographer's (who had gear) photos, and your experiences.
