Lorenzo’s god turned him into a dragonborn.
Formerly human, he dedicated 80 years of his time on the material plane to meditation on Miyatatsu, the Weathered Scale—also known as the draconic god of time. To his surprise, the famously quiet deity spoke to him in a dream, telling Lorenzo his devout patience was needed elsewhere. He awoke in Latehaven with body and abilities anew, and much to the chagrin of Latehavenites, he was alive.
Avoiding extraplanar attention was an important principle for the people of Latehaven. Several millennia ago, the plane was still a wasteland of the dead, meant to receive souls who died without deities or were simply rejected by them. It was only 2,146 years ago that the city was founded by a group of late adventurers who maintained their sanity in the empty plane long enough to build a place worth dying for. Keeping it that way meant neither gods nor their worshippers were welcomed.
So when the devout Lorenzo appeared on the same day that a gargantuan dragon did above a mountain near the city, both bearing the same color of scale, Latehavenites were unhappy, and were quick to draw conclusions.
Without regard for his life, Lorenzo proudly spoke of his believed transcendence at Miyatatsu’s hand, who he also believed the nearby giant dragon to be. This pride caught the attention of the on-looking Sakai, who immediately took a liking to him. And out of their own goodness and experience, Volpiko and Muka also sympathized with Lorenzo. The trio defended Lorenzo from angry Latehavenites, and they became a party of four, and immediately began investigating this strange occurrence.
What was happening in Latehaven?
