I forget what this camera or lens is called he was using, but it's supposed to look like this. Well, except the lighter ones. He thought they were too light and re-adjusted. He said there is more information that can be gleaned out of a darker image in editing. You can't get information back on lighter ones. I like the high key look. I think it's more flattering on people and you can easily view the photo lighter in a thumbnail. But, I understand what he's saying.
