I’m the only person in the gym that front squats and do full squats I only get confused looks and hear sniggering

Just train squat like a powerlifter and do technique work for weightlifting. If you wanna focus on strength, follow a powerlifting program. Just do technique work so you don't lose motor patterns.

When I was the deepest into my, "weightlifting/lifting" phase of my life my best CNJ was 280# and my back squat was 3015#. I was never able to figure out how to get stronger after hella programs.

I always worked with; if you can front squat 3 times, you can clean it. I always did front squat to improve my overall technique. I also get what you mean by "shame" we inadvertently compare ourselves or have this concept of what we should be according to xyz.
