Looking for feedback...

Hi guys,

As I work on the next instalment of Naughty Magic, I ponder the main elements of an adult game: Sex, Imagery, Storyline and Gameplay. I have my own thoughts on these elements of course, but I would really like some feedback from you too.

Sex – I’m aiming at something that is a good turn-on, with perhaps more emphasis on the erotic over the physical than some other games.  What are your thoughts?

Images – Are you happy with the images at present? Do you want me to spend more time on stuff like lighting and post production (currently nil, as I don’t have Photoshop)? Or keep images as they are and focus on stuff like dialogue and plot twists?

Storyline and gameplay – Hmmm... if it has to be one or the other then I’ll always go for a good storyline over a challenging game. To me, a good storyline complements the sex and the imagery. I worry that if I make the game too challenging it will pour cold water on the story and any erotic build-up…For example I don’t want you to be more interested in finding the key to the door than in who is inside the locked room.

So how challenging should I make the gameplay? If I make it difficult does it spoil the plot flow and the build-up? If I make it too easy do I get boring? Should I use it mainly for plot twists and bonus scenes, or in some other way?

I think the hottest thing I could suggest is to immerse the person into the action. "blah, blah, your c*ck feels so good against my ....ZzzzZzzz". No. How about " There was something there- I am pretty certain I felt a hard nipple when she grazed past. Maybe that is why she glanced back and grinned mischievously. I search for her, from one aisle to the next- but I cant see her. 2 more aisles later I turn a corner and (pop!) the lights go out as I fall dazed to the floor. A moment later, ... (you know what I mean, add a mix of mystery and real-life scenario to fuel the passion building up in the character. Adding a dash of desperation in the initial moments of meeting (or trying to keep up with a character) can really improve the storyline, and also keep the reader (fapper) intrigued enough to want to know more. Hope this helps, if not it was fun to write =P

I definitely think having more storyline to further the feeling of kink is important. I personally enjoy seeing the girl I am pursuing raise an eyebrow, hint, or give a crooked smile then change they dynamic of approach for your relationship to them. Also, I am noticing certain fetishes being enjoyed by patrons (based on what I have noticed from other developers). I don't personally enjoy too many of these but I do like a chance to explore or "dip my toe in" once in a while. The curious ones will be hooked, and keep playing until they have completed every ending (even the bad ones).

Sex - I've always like the build up over the actual act when it comes to games like this. The chase, the tease, the games. Whether short or long. Just as long as there IS payoff in the end. One of my favourite scenes in MWA is the ending when Becky catches you watching her shower video from earlier. It's a quick build but makes sense given the point in the game. Images - I'm quite satisfied with the images right now. Yes, there are more impressive ones out there, but yours are good. I'd much rather have a well-written scene with a few images to 'help set the mood' then a ton of images and little story. Gameplay - In this kind of game, Story over Challenge any day. I'd like a bit of challenge mind you, but it should flow from character personalities. Finding the right choices to impress the girl instead of solving the insanely difficult logic puzzle. And even then the choices should make sense. The game shouldn't give us a bad end just because we cooked them the wrong meal or something similarly silly and random. Unless of course, we know ahead of time that they're allergic to something and we still cook a meal with said item... but I'm starting to ramble now.

For any game, especially adult games, I believe story to be the most critical. It doesn't have to be super detailed or broad, it just needs to be something that draws us in and makes us care about our character and those they interact with. Second most important for an adult game is sex. Most importantly, the pacing of how quickly we get to things, and how frequently we get them. Sure, your setup is a bunch of horny young men and women aroused by the very thing they're studying, but if we don't have to try for it at all, this quickly turns into interactive porn, not a game. Also, when it comes to sex scenes, I am a huge fan of story consistent interactivity. Third in line is the gameplay. Some challenge can help with pacing, repetitive or high luck based challenges are the most frustrating as a player, but having a little bit of either is not bad. Beyond that, keep the gameplay as a relatively simple affair and it shouldn't be problematic. Obstacles to overcome, sure, but as we overcome them, merely mentioning repeat obstacles as a story passage, or simplifying recurrences because of our experience is a good plan. Last is images. As long as images are consistent they will be fine as long as the other game elements are solid. Worst case is you put functional placeholders in where necessary and acquire better images after the game is more complete. Unless you plan for this to simply be visual porn, simply having consistent, decent images is enough to complement a good story, good sex scenes, and good gameplay.

Storyline, storyline, storyline! Followed by Sex and then whatever work on the images you need to. as long asthe images all fit and look "alike" for each scene (I hate when one image looks like its in a dark room, then the next one is washed out and then the next actually looks like it is in the bathroom (or whatever location) that its supposed to be. As far as how chalenging to make it, I would say your best bet is to make it moderatly so, but on the easier side . if I have to do 46 different things in the proper order in order to open a single scene, it gets tedious, but if I make 1 choice and suddenly sisters and mom are all in bed doing whatever kink I want. If you do make it harder, keep a visible tracker or a display of points of whichever type earned visible, so that it can be played without a walkthrough. I hope this was in some way helpful and not just a babbling jumble that makes you role your eyes and graon, lol.
