2025-10-18 00:57:27 +0000 UTCNot only do I think Live and Let Dive is the best segment, I think it's the second best segment in the entire franchise after, of course, Ratmaa. It takes a lot to engage a seasoned veteran and I can't say I've ever seen a skydiving horror before. And while the end was a bit disappointing, the tension and kills leading up to it were phenomenal!

2024-10-25 19:01:21 +0000 UTCI wonder if the alien micro-bot healing mechanism (but can’t do it right because they don’t have humans in their database) in Kate Siegel’s segment was at least partially inspired by Doctor Who. As that almost exact same premise was the driving force behind the 2005 two-parter “The Empty Child” / “The Doctor Dances”. In that episode an alien ambulance (equipped with nano machines that heal the injured) crash lands in London in the 1940s during the Blitz. The crash kills a child, but in its attempt to heal the kid it mistakes the gas mask the child wears for actual flesh and the nano-bots attempt to heal all Londoners in that fashion… leading to one of the creepiest monsters in all of Doctor Who (…”are you my mummy?”) There’s an actual connection there as well Kate Siegel worked with the writes of that Doctor Who story (Steven Moffat) on the cancelled 2022 HBO series “The Time Traveler’s Wife”

I’m pretty biased towards any Flanagan/Siegel project to begin with, but considering I’m fairly “meh” towards alien stuff in general, I can appreciate an alien story where the actual alien plays virtually no part in it. Also, Halley’s ultimate fate is more horrifying to imagine than anything else in the whole movie, at least for me.
