Chapter 131: The Challenge of the Flying Thunder God!
In a training ground within the Uchiha clan territory of Konoha, lightning flickered silently. The only sound was the swish of wind blades and the crackling of lightning as three figures moved swiftly across the field. Their speed was incredible, leaving only flashes of weapons and arcs of electricity in the air.
“I’m done! Yosuke, it’s bad enough that your endurance is monstrous from your constant taijutsu training, but Kushina’s too? You two are like tireless monsters!”
The first to drop out of the sparring match was Uchiha Mikoto. She was panting heavily, wiping sweat from her forehead. In contrast, Uzumaki Kushina, her long red hair framing her face, looked as composed as ever. At 17, Kushina had blossomed into a striking young woman with a tall and well-developed figure.
Noticing Mikoto’s exhaustion, Kushina gave her a playful smile.
“Mikoto-senpai, your genjutsu is one of Konoha’s best! They say even the Sharingan’s three-tomoe form can’t break it.”
Mikoto returned the compliment with a gentle smile, dispelling the faint flickers of lightning around her body.
“I only managed to keep up with you both thanks to the Lightning Release mode I learned from Yosuke. But I’m still not proficient at it. It drains my stamina too quickly, and lightning is just my secondary chakra nature, something I developed later on.”
Mikoto was a typical Uchiha, with her chakra primarily aligned to fire. She had developed her lightning nature much later through intense training, especially under Yosuke’s guidance. While Yosuke shared everything he knew, Mikoto focused solely on mastering Lightning Release chakra mode to enhance her speed. After all, a genjutsu user might be fragile, but they couldn’t afford to be slow.
Watching the two, Uchiha Yosuke dispelled his lightning chakra mode, revealing his tall and muscular frame. Unlike the explosive build of the Cloud Village ninjas, his physique was lean and powerful, exuding a quiet strength.
“Taijutsu has the advantage of integrating ninjutsu and physical training. It lets you strengthen your body while practicing your techniques. Most ninjas would need twice the training time to balance the two, but with taijutsu, it’s seamless.”
It had been two years since Yosuke returned from the Land of Rain. At 17, he now stood at an impressive 186 cm. Dressed in white, his sunny smile made Kushina’s heart skip a beat.
“You’re like an unstoppable beast! I’m a jinchūriki, and even I can’t outlast you!” Kushina exclaimed, tearing her gaze from Yosuke’s chiseled frame. She then adopted a mock teacherly tone.
“Two years! You’ve been studying sealing techniques for two whole years! How’s your Flying Thunder God technique coming along?”
Her curiosity was evident despite her stern demeanor. Yosuke scratched his head, his brows furrowed.
“Well… Kushina, why don’t you see for yourself?”
“Fine, I’ll take a look.”
Kushina eagerly grabbed the specially crafted three-pronged kunai that Yosuke tossed her. It bore the unique Flying Thunder God seal she had helped him create.
“Ready…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Yosuke suddenly appeared right beside her. Her pupils dilated in shock.
“Yosuke! You’ve mastered it!”
Unable to contain her excitement, Kushina hugged him tightly, shouting with joy. Mikoto watched the scene unfold with an amused smile.
“Kind of,” Yosuke admitted, shaking his head. “But pay attention to my chakra.”
Kushina calmed herself and focused, her expression shifting to one of disbelief.
“Yosuke, your chakra…”
Since awakening her sensory abilities two years ago, Kushina could perceive chakra with remarkable clarity. She now realized that Yosuke’s chakra reserves had noticeably diminished—though still vast, the reduction was concerning.
“Every time I teleport using the Flying Thunder God, it consumes as much chakra as one and a half A-rank techniques, like the Rasengan or Chidori. And that’s just for one teleport. The chakra cost increases based on distance and the size of the object being teleported.”
In the original story, Kakashi mentioned during the Chūnin Exams that he could only use Chidori four times in a day. Despite his relatively small reserves, that was still a significant comparison.
For Yosuke, each use of the Flying Thunder God consumed as much chakra as one and a half Chidoris. After just three uses, an average Jōnin would be out of chakra entirely. Yosuke sighed and shook his head.
“Maybe I lack the talent for space-time ninjutsu. My chakra consumption is far higher than the Second Hokage’s. Still, it’s not completely useless. At the very least, it makes for a great trump card.”
He laughed, glancing at Mikoto and Kushina.
“This is our little secret, okay?”
Kushina frowned, biting her lip.
“It’s not your fault, Yosuke. This jutsu is almost impossible for anyone to master. If there’s an issue, it’s with my sealing techniques. I’ll work harder to reduce the chakra cost!”
Kushina’s determination was unwavering. When she cared about someone, she would never blame them. If there was a problem, she believed it was her own lack of effort.
Yosuke smiled, gently tapping her forehead.
“Don’t push yourself too hard. Over the past two years, with Orochimaru and Tsunade’s help, I’ve fused lightning release into a stronger taijutsu technique. My speed is now fast enough to react to the Flying Thunder God.”
Kushina puffed her cheeks in mock annoyance.
“Fine, but it’s still a pain. Tsunade said you’re as stubborn as a mule. At least this jutsu will keep you from getting yourself killed.”
Yosuke chuckled at her teasing and nodded.
“Don’t underestimate yourself, Kushina. You’re incredibly strong now. You’ve already mastered four tails’ worth of the Nine-Tails’ power. Even Orochimaru said fighting you is life-threatening.”
Kushina’s expression darkened slightly as she placed a hand on her stomach.
“Once I seal the Nine-Tails, I’ll truly become a monster…”
She forced a grin, flashing her small canine teeth in a mock-threatening gesture.
“Mikoto, then I’ll be the Nine-Tailed Fox Princess of Konoha!”
Mikoto responded with a kind smile, but Yosuke saw through Kushina’s act. Beneath her bravado, she feared becoming a monster.
“Kushina, Yosuke thinks your little fox form is adorable,” Mikoto teased, making Kushina blush furiously.
Flustered, Kushina tried to hide her embarrassment by puffing out her chest.
“Hmph! When I’m done, I’ll be Konoha’s stronge
st ninja!”
The three laughed, their bond stronger than ever.
