Chapter 94: I Also Have the Second Hokage’s Body Flicker Technique!
"Not bad, Kushina. You’re actually bold enough to claim so much for yourself."
As the others left, the usually gentle Uchiha Mikoto teased Uzumaki Kushina with a smile.
Kushina’s face turned bright red, her cheeks flushed with defiance as she shot back, "Mikoto, what do you mean! How is this greedy? Tsunade has told me herself about how much the Sarutobi clan has taken over the past twenty years..."
With that, Kushina inadvertently exposed some things Tsunade had mentioned, making Uchiha Yosuke, who was sitting at the desk, understand a little more.
It seemed Tsunade was indeed growing wary of Konoha’s leadership. Ever since the last incident in the Land of Grass, Yosuke had hinted to her about certain things—such as how some in Konoha had started plotting against the Senju clan early on, and even the White Fang’s downfall. Even if Tsunade was initially skeptical, seeds of doubt were planted.
Once the seed of doubt was there, Tsunade would be cautious, maybe even investigate. And if she did, would she find the upper echelons’ records clean? Especially with the Sarutobi clan’s growth, there was no way they hadn't taken advantage over the years.
As he thought about this, Yosuke glanced at Kushina with curiosity. "So, Tsunade discovered some interesting things," he thought, "and that’s why she's so committed to strengthening alliances among clans."
In the original story, Konohamaru was able to access sensitive records after the Third Hokage’s death, showing how common certain privileges had become—even the Anbu were accustomed to ignoring them. And despite the intense Third Shinobi War, the Sarutobi clan would later show remarkable power in the Fourth Shinobi War, even surpassing the Hyuga to become the strongest clan. Given this, it’s no wonder people believed they had grown at the expense of Konoha’s resources.
"Mikoto, didn’t you once say that those from prominent clans are often stuck in situations beyond their control…?"
In response, Kushina’s defiant face softened as she listened to Mikoto, who continued with a gentle smile, "Of course, I know Kushina comes from a distinguished clan, so she has seen a lot."
As they bantered, Kushina’s eyes flashed with surprise. Had she really seen much? Growing up in the Whirlpool Kingdom’s daimyo residence, she had seen plenty, though back then it felt natural—her father was in charge, just as Yosuke was now...
She glanced over at Yosuke, feeling a mix of nostalgia and sympathy. Proud as the Uchiha were, they preferred combat over politics, perhaps dreading nothing more than being burdened by these affairs.
"Yosuke must be exhausted with all of this," thought Mikoto, looking over at him, "probably longing for the battlefield, where he can leave all these troubles behind."
At that moment, Kushina straightened and spoke with a proud smile. "Yosuke, Tsunade-sama asked me to give you this."
She reached into her pouch and handed over a scroll of techniques. Seeing Yosuke’s questioning look, she explained, somewhat flustered, "Tsunade-sama said you wouldn’t have much time to learn new jutsu during the war, so she’s giving you the Second Hokage’s Body Flicker Technique scroll. It also has notes on sword techniques."
"Since you’re already focusing on Lightning Release, you’ll need extensive time to refine both physical and chakra techniques. With Lightning Release boosting your physical speed, this will help you further refine your speed."
As Yosuke listened to Kushina’s explanation, a smile appeared. She was right; in a time of war, he couldn’t devote too much time to multiple forms of training. Focusing on speed would be more practical.
At this point, he was already accelerating his body with Lightning Release to boost speed, and with the Second Hokage’s Body Flicker and sword techniques, he could enhance it even more. For now, his Sharingan gave him more than enough jutsu and genjutsu capabilities, so strengthening his speed with Body Flicker was the fastest way to boost his power.
"Understood," he replied.
But as Kushina’s gaze became more evasive, Yosuke glanced up and teased, "So, can Mikoto see this Second Hokage’s Body Flicker and sword technique scroll too?"
"Of course sh—" Kushina instinctively nodded, but then paused, realizing her slip-up. Her cheeks turned crimson as she struggled to keep her composure, her eyes filling with shy embarrassment.
"Oh, so it’s a gift from Kushina as well, I see," Yosuke chuckled.
Mikoto gently broke the tension with a smile, leading Kushina out of the room. "Of course, Kushina meant for it to be shared," she said, and Kushina turned away, her heart racing.
"Body Flicker and sword techniques from the Second Hokage!"
Yosuke immersed himself in the scroll, marveling at the detailed instructions. Although the basic Body Flicker Technique was a standard D-rank move used by all shinobi, the Second Hokage had developed it into something unique.
Ordinary Body Flicker Techniques focused on using chakra at the feet to momentarily burst forward, but powerful shinobi could personalize it by integrating it with their own techniques—like Shisui’s ‘Phantom Body Flicker’ using his Sharingan, the Raikage’s Lightning Body Flicker, or Hanzo’s Water Body Flicker.
"So many techniques in one simple Body Flicker scroll, revealing so many possibilities," Yosuke thought, astonished. "This Second Hokage was a true master of ninjutsu."
As he continued reading, he found extensive notes on sword techniques, including analysis of over a hundred types—even those used by samurai. Though the Uchiha were once as renowned as the Senju, their focus was often on jutsu, resulting in a lack of similar depth in other areas.
It wasn’t that the Uchiha lacked strength, but they were perhaps overconfident in their Sharingan, relying more on powerful ninjutsu than anything else. The Senju, on the other hand, always valued versatility, amassing a vast range of techniques over the years.
The Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, had built on that foundation, creating one forbidden jutsu after another.
