Chapter 89: The Crying Land of Rain

After repelling the enemy forces at the valley mine, the nearby town had grown accustomed to the sound of battle. As the noise from the valley gradually faded and Leaf Village shinobi resumed their patrols, the town’s residents numbly left their homes, resuming their daily struggles to survive.

In the tallest building in town, the newly arrived Leaf reinforcements gathered.

"Captain Yosuke, this Sand Ninja and rogue team was an elite squad operating covertly in our territory. For you to have severely injured Rasa, a Sand Village elite jonin…"

Raindrops drummed against the windows as Uchiha Yosuke listened intently to the local Leaf ninja’s report, rubbing his brow in concentration. It was typical for shinobi to infiltrate enemy lines, assassinate targets, and sow chaos.

"The town used to have a thousand residents, but because of the war, the wealthy fled, causing the town to decline. However, the war has also led to an influx of refugees…"

As the Leaf representatives from the Senju, Uchiha, Hyuga, and Aburame clans absorbed the situation, Yosuke nodded with understanding.

"Maintain our patrols around town and restore order. Since the rogue attacks caused us significant losses at the mine, we can recruit some of the younger refugees here for mining efforts. Though Rain Village citizens distrust outsiders like us, we must prioritize our operations’ stability."

Yosuke calmly began issuing commands to restore peace in the area. "Strengthen the perimeter patrols to prevent this from happening again. With such capable scouts in our squad, I want all reconnaissance strengthened."

His gaze fell on the Hyuga members. As a branch member, Hizashi stayed silent, but Hiashi, a member of the main family, nodded with resolution.

"Leave the scouting to the Hyuga clan."

With the Hyuga clan taking charge of reconnaissance, Yosuke was pleased. “Hiashi, I’ll put six squads under your command for patrol.”

Hiashi’s usually stoic expression softened in satisfaction; being entrusted with such responsibility alongside Senju and Uchiha members affirmed the clan’s standing.

Yosuke then turned to a Leaf jonin from the Senju clan, the former leader of the outpost.

"Senju Moku, you will continue overseeing the town. Uchiha Hachidai and Aburame members will manage the mine’s security. Everyone else, be ready for combat."

“Yes!”

Yosuke’s tactical distribution of authority left the representatives from each clan satisfied. Even the Leaf Village’s non-clan shinobi felt respected in Yosuke’s reorganization, which balanced power and recognized everyone’s contributions.

Standing among the clans, Uchiha Mikoto looked on with pride, admiring Yosuke’s confident command. Uzumaki Kushina glanced at him as well, her cheeks reddening, as she quickly put on a composed front.

Through his strength and skill in battle, Yosuke had proven himself a worthy jonin commander. Here, he also demonstrated his political acumen, impressing everyone present. No one doubted why Tsunade had chosen him for this post.

**In the Land of Rain, torn between powerful nations,** Rain’s villages and resources were absorbed by the shinobi armies of the larger nations. Both Sand and Leaf justified their presence as "restoring peace," yet waged open war and exploited Rain's resources. The Stone Village, though not openly at war, masked their intentions under the guise of aid, forcing Rain's leader, Hanzō of the Salamander, into a desperate agreement to trade Rain’s precious iron for supplies from the Land of Earth.

"So, this kid is full of surprises," Tsunade remarked, looking over the recent reports with a smile.

Uchiha Yosuke, Leaf’s youngest jonin, had defeated the elite Sand shinobi, Rasa. The news would surely dampen the morale of the Sand forces.

"But he certainly knows how to push his luck," she said with a chuckle. Despite her admiration, Yosuke’s report contained multiple requests for more personnel.

“An entire town's worth of troops, and he’s still asking for reinforcements,” she sighed, amused by his ambition. However, his open aspirations showed her that she had chosen well.

A ninja without ambition would only go so far. For an Uchiha, a bit of arrogance and drive was natural.

"But for Sand to reach this far in… seems like we need to apply more pressure."

Looking at the map, she focused on the town’s location and began formulating plans. “That old crone Chiyo is pushing her limits. Guess we need to turn up the heat on them.”

**Rain Country – Sand Command Post**

"Rasa, what happened out there? How could you lose to a child?!" Elder Chiyo scolded, her face dark with frustration as she looked down at Rasa on the medical bed.

"Elder Chiyo!" Rasa clenched his fists, his frustration barely contained as he replied in a steady voice, "Our intel was compromised. The Leaf ninja knew every detail about my techniques. Uchiha Yosuke planned his strategy around my abilities. I won’t deny it; he’s formidable. His taijutsu, ninjutsu, and shuriken techniques are all exceptional. Moreover, he has close ties with Tsunade and is proficient in medical jutsu and genjutsu with his Sharingan."

Chiyo’s lips curled into a cynical smile.

“Ninjutsu, taijutsu, and Sharingan genjutsu, plus a keen tactical mind and skill in medical techniques… and close to the Slug Princess? Another jack-of-all-trades type?”

She had faced many versatile shinobi before; Chiyo herself was an elite puppeteer and skilled in medical ninjutsu, taijutsu, and sealing jutsu. Her prowess had earn

ed her the title of one of Rain’s most dangerous foes on the battlefield.
