Patreon Exclusive: A Home Project With Blue | The Making of Our Family Room Mantel | Day 1

Day one... Yikes! What a slow start! So right up front let me warn ya'll... I've really been wanting to take you along for a lot of experiences around our home and property but unfortunately I've always got my hands full tools given the type of work and projects I'm getting into. So... For this type of 'behind the scenes' footage you can expect to see a lot of GoPro strapped to my forehead type of shots and angles.

I honestly loved recording this footage because it felt like I was just going on about my day and not juggling a recording device along with a 50lb slice of wood, saw horses and a box of supplies...

Enough of that rubbish... lets get into the project!

What I thought would be a quick sanding and installation of the mantel I am making to hang in our family room became a drawn out adventure... in other words, I got lazy and could have done more the find the sand paper but then the kids got home and the dog was cute and the cat was begging for attention and then of course theres the issue of not having the brackets to hang the mantel in time so one has to break to shop online for some brackets! I did consider making my own corbels but it was thought they may create too much of a chunky look in the small space we are installing the mantel so brackets have taken the lead.

Truth is I want to take my time on this project because it will become a permanent part of our home and will house our family photos and other sentimental pieces which are currently packed away in our storage which you will get a glimpse of at the beginning of the video.

Keep in mind this isn't edited to be anything other than footage I'd typically edit down to a minute or two for a Matt and Blue YouTube vlog. This is true behind the scenes footage.

The weather today is looking gloomy, wet and muddy as the rain hasn't stopped all morning. I'm not feeling optimistic about my chances of getting back out there today to sand and stain the piece... but I will share the complete process of my creating with ya'll this month. Assuming the rain actually stops before February. But you know what they say about assuming....
