Video Poll #2

Hi everyone,

It's time for another video poll! I'll be lifting two options from the last one and adding a new one to replace VA-11 HALL-A.

Mirai

In Mirai, little Kun grapples with the realisation that the arrival of his baby sister Mirai means everything is going to change.

A magical film from Mamoru Hosoda about finding your place in your family, and a shorter and more free-flowing video about my personal experience with this film.

If you want a shorter upload sooner rather than later, this is your option.

Sound! Euphonium

Sound! Euphonium is one of my absolute favourite series, and a gem hidden amongst anime's rife schoolscape. It follows euphonist Kumiko Oumae as she joins Kitauji High School and drifts into their concert band, as she does most things in life. But how will the band's decision to shoot for Nationals challenge her core nature?

The thing that really struck me about this show was the mature tone it employed as its characters navigated their passions--both towards music, and one another. A semi-analysis, semi-reflection on a show that really resonated with me.

This video will cover the whole series, including Liz and the Blue Bird, and will likely be closer to half an hour in length (deliberately vague, we all know how terrible I am at these estimates). It will take a bit longer than the prior option.

Shiki

Shiki is another favourite of mine, and surely one of the 2010s' most underrated anime. The stage is the summer of 1994; a quiet, rural Japanese village. When the people of Sotoba begin to suddenly drop dead one by one, village doctor Toshio Ozaki is forced to ask himself: is this an epidemic he's dealing with, or does it have more to do with the strange family who just moved into the old mansion on the hill?

Horror in anime is an interesting topic, often leading to the discussion of  various titles I wouldn't personally be inclined to lend that label. In this video I want to explain why Shiki defines the genre, for me: through both its gothic conventions, and the blood-curdling questions they prompt us to ask about man as much as monster.

This will be a solidly analytical video that already promises to be quite the project, as I want to talk at least a little about horror in anime in general, and how we define it. It will likely push me right up to my two month deadline.

So, those are your options! Hopefully there's something here for everyone! You have 72 hours to get your votes in, I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys pick ^__^
