Ruth is a psychic- she saw Susie’s ghost running away right after she was murdered, and that’s why she went to ray about Susie right away. Susie choosing to let her murderer get away is a powerful scene, because in the books, it is much more explicit in the fact that she was raped before she was killed. She chooses to kiss ray because she wants one positive romantic encounter before she crosses over. It’s a beautiful story, but more about emotions than getting revenge or who done it.

Tonally it's just all over the place and the pacing is really ineffective. Not one of Jackson's best imo.
