I love this movie. Roxie is based on Beulah Annan. She was an actual woman from Owensboro, Kentucky who was excused of murdering her lover in Chicago and telling her husband that the man had attacked and she shot him in self defense like Roxie said in the movie. And Velma is based on Belva Gaertner. I find it interesting as someone who is also from Kentucky. That these two characters were based on actual people. The woman who said "not guilty" was speaking Hungarian and she actually wasn't guilty. She was framed for murder and hung because no one could understand her.
