Bruh she has an ability, but has to focus on it to use it to full extent. At the time she is focused on the two kids with guns so not actively using her powers. In the other scene you mentioned she was just picking up surface thoughts. Surface thoughts that this guy who has now had like 3 interactions with mentally would not to not have or have non violent thoughts towards her while he made his move. Glad you enjoyed the movie sir. Also Rhetorical you have not seen this movie??
