Answers to a couple of questions: the show didn't get a second season because the Fox network, which aired it, deliberately sabotaged it. It never got traction, never found its audience, and Fox was able to justify canceling it after only a few episodes aired. Fans of the show are still mad about it. That brings us to your initial confusion about whether you had the right episode. Fox aired the episodes out of order. The pilot episode, which you just watched, aired last. Yes, last, after they had already announced the show's cancellation. The second episode aired first. So, some sources list the episodes in the order that they were intended, and some list them in the order they aired. I think the consensus among fans is that the intended order is best, so you're doing it right. The term "Crazy Ivan" is explained in the movie The Hunt for Red October, which is worth a watch.
