In June 1989 in Richmond, British Columbia, near Vancouver, Canada, the body of 44-year-old Cindy James was found behind an abandoned house. The autopsy wasnโt able to determine her cause of death but the toxicology report later revealed an amount of morphine in her body that was more than 10 times a lethal dose. Her body was hog-tied with a pair of pantyhose with another pair wrapped
tightly around her neck. For seven years Cindy had been relentlessly harassed and badly beaten several times. Her tormentor was unknown and because there was little to no evidence left behind, law enforcement thought she may have manufactured the entire story of prolonged harassment for attention.
Her cause of death was due to a drug overdose and initially the manner of her death was ruled a suicide but a coronial inquest became the longest and most expensive in the history of British Columbia lasting 40 days. Was Cindy James the victim of an unrelenting torment that resulted in her murder or was she the architect of her own nightmare??
