We’re back with some hot behind-the-scenes tea from La Demence in Brussels—a legendary gay dance party that’s been turning up the heat for over 35 years. And let us tell you…it was everything we expected and more.
✨ A Little Backstory
When I (Trai) was studying in Paris in 2021, my French friends would constantly rave about this party, road-tripping to Brussels every month for it. So, naturally, when a Brussels native we met at Club Church in Amsterdam told us it’s even better these days, we knew we had to rally—even if it meant getting on a train on New Year’s Day.
🎟️ What to Expect
Think Ibiza meets Amsterdam but with its own special je ne sais quoi. La Demence kicks off at 10 PM in the iconic Club Fuse, but trust us: arriving early is key. By 11 PM, the locker room was a chaotic, sweaty sea of men. (Pro tip: Bring a couple of 2-euro coins for the lockers, and save yourself the hassle of trying to organize change! Everything else you can pay for with your phone.)
And the crowd? A mix of 20s to 50s with an emphasis on fit and fabulous. As for the fashion? Jocks, singlets, jeans, or just athletic shorts and no shirt—it’s a sporty vibe. Anything goes here, so don’t be shy.
🤯 3 Levels of Madness
Pro Tip: Condoms and lube are provided at multiple stations. Bring your stamina because this party doesn’t stop until morning. The last of the hourly stripper shows begins at 6 AM!
🔥 Did It Live Up to the Hype?
Yes. Yes. And YES. From the jaw-dropping play spaces to seeing Stefan and Seb from Nomadic Boys (hello, OG gay travel bloggers!), La Demence is a bucket list experience for any gay traveler.
💭 Would We Go Back?
We’re definitely glad we checked this iconic party off our list, but now we’ve got our sights set on the La Demence Cruise this summer—if we can snag a spot! We’ve been on the waiting list for a few months now. Fingers crossed. And for those who want an even bigger party, the anniversary event over the first weekend in November sounds like the stuff of legend: 10,000+ guys in an indoor arena. Head to the official website for the full schedule and to purchase tickets. One of our Swiss-based friends tells us this is the best party of the year!
