Playa del Muerto, Sitges

Known as the oldest gay beach in the world since the 1930's, Playa del Muerto continues to be the 'go to' meeting place for men to sunbathe, swim, and socialize naked. Getting to this secluded beach is part of the fun as it's located 45-50 minutes hiking along the sea and railroad tracks just beyond the southern limits of Sitges. Bring your own towel and refreshments or rent a sun lounger and umbrella for the day.

Above the beach, Chiringay del Muerto, which has been operating since 1970, offers food and drinks for sale. Credit cards are accepted, however, you may need to walk up to the railroad tracks with the machine for cell service to process your transaction. Across the railroad tracks, men meet for sex along the wooded trails in the Magic Forest. Many amateur and professional adult films have been made in this location.

Back on the beach, in the late afternoon, you will notice guys disappearing around the rocks at the southernmost point of the beach. Many wear protective foot gear to access the rocky yet secluded coves and the infamous cave. This area is not for the faint of heart.

Without a doubt, Playa del Muerto is one of the easiest places to meet fellow travelers in Sitges. If you are a single gay traveler, we highly recommend coming to Playa del Muerto during the day and then starting off your night at Parrots for the best happy hour and people watching in town.

We made that mistake too on the return once thinking a beach walk would be nice with the breeze. Nope haha. You have to take the road by the golf club entrance to get back to town!

Thanks much for responding. I followed your directions on Google Maps and it all seems to fit nicely. My mistake was to take a beach front road.

Our pleasure! And our first trip was a fail as well! We ended up walking through a ritzy neighborhood and then through an unmarked forest but made it. We walked back along the tracks following the locals to see how it's done! Now we hit up the Mercadona by the train station for a beach cooler, ice, drinks and snacks and then walk along Passeig de Vilanova to the Carrer Joan de la Cierva which takes you to the golf club. Walk past the entrance to the golf club to the sea and follow the sea path all the way to Playa del Muerto. The train tracks will be to your right the entire way along the path. The first nudist beach is the straight one, Platja de L'Home Mort, so keep going until you see Zona Nudista!

I will be in Sitges in September and will make a concerted effort to get there. I have always gone to Balmin's Beach in past trips and loved it but tried once to get to Playa del Muerto and failed. I started walking and came to a water channel and water looked pretty deep so I turned back. Will try a different route next time. Thanks for posting. I have heard many great stories of Playa del Muerto!!
