[Slimy Slime] Chapter 48: An Interesting Day For Sandra
Added 2023-05-05 18:45:29 +0000 UTCI woke up, lavishly. I was still in a cave but I’d taken the five minutes worth of time to make it not look like I was a Cave slime. Mostly just by smoothing out the natural edges to make it look more sculpted. I quite liked this cave. It was strange to think about but in the future… this area would probably become my basement as I built a castle on top of this hill. In fact, it might not even be that. I’ll probably dig down as far as is reasonable to hide and protect the dungeon core. That would probably be… at least a mile into the earth. How strange to think about.
But right now, none of that matters! Because today was going to be special. There was one thing, above all, that I learned yesterday!
I am stupid.
Not really, not actually, I’ve got a pretty good slimy head on my slimy shoulders… even though I have neither of those! But it’s application. Always a problem with the execution. My adhd had never been more detrimental… Jumping from one idea to the next, over and over. I didn’t really have a problem with focus or, amusingly, paying attention, but in doing the right things in the right ways… that had always been a struggle.
Sandra had basically tanned my hide. Me, her own king! No respect for kings these days, woe is me. And thank the Gods and Goddesses that she had! None of that stuff had even crossed my mind…
So today would be hard but… it was time to take a step back and ask for advice. I’ve already done it with all of my building and architecture stuff. It was time for me to return a little to my roots. I needed to learn.
First off… Sandra and Michael! I walked out of the cave, only to find a familiar sight. Sandra had spent nearly a week doing nothing but caring for Tilia and helping me build up a City. I was pretty sure I already knew what class she was going to take soon. She was still waiting a few more weeks to become silver but after that… I was pretty sure I was looking at the future Mayor of Slimetopia. I’d ask her about it later.
Currently she was multi-tasking like a boss. Almost literally. She was pouring over our architecture plans, gently rocking Tilia, and even teaching goblins Common. This wasn’t a new batch either, but the original group that Krrrgg had brought in.
“The road in Ranso was run down.”
“”“The road in Ranso was rwun dwrg.”””
“Almost. The road in Ranso was run down.”
Shocking. I’d seen the goblins earlier. These ones were really… quite smart. Others could talk but… it was pretty basic. Not really conversation like humans, more like apes in the wild. I think I was looking at the future elites of my army.
It only took a moment, but I came to a decision. Even tired last night, I’d still taken the time to pour in my mana. Keeping it topped up when I was about to pass out was silly. No, in fact, it might be downright criminal negligence with threats on the horizon.
Focusing, I summoned a barrel. A large barrel. By now, Sandra, little baby Tilia, and the goblins had all stopped to turn and stare at me. I filled the barrel up spears. A lot of weapons were useful but there was only one true melee weapon for war. Don’t believe the lies about swords or axes or anything else. Spears are the most used weapon in all of war, the absolute core of it. I’d need to outfit more with shields, light armor, and bows but one thing at a time. This would have to do for now. I didn’t have infinite mana.
“Hello. These are spears for all of you. I’ll make more later.” I said in both common and goblin. I don’t what fun combination of being a slime and [Univeral Speech] made it easy to talk in two languages at once, but it was pretty fun, if hard on the ears.
I had gone above and beyond this time though. 500+ goblins and a few humans mana dwarfed mine immediately. There had been enough to outfit all around two dozen Elite Goblins with iron spears tips. Preferably, I’d make iron weapons for everyone but we just hadn’t reached that age yet. Too expensive. For now.
The goblins looked at me for a moment in stunned shock.
Then excitement took over. They scrambled to grab the spears and I was mentally patting myself on the back for making the spears and barrel small for the goblin's height. We’re being forward thinking today!
The second they all got a spear though…
“””King Slime! King Slime! King Slime!””” They all began to shout, in Common.
I was stunned. Uh, hey, uh. That’s… you know. I’m glad you’re all happy but… please… stop? This feels really awkward now all of a sudden! I felt guilty just yesterday for not seeing you as people and now you’re practically worshipping like Krrrgg tried to do! Stop! Just go back to learning! Gah!
“G-Go train with them, with Krrrgg. You can resume your lessons later.”
They practically vanished before my eyes, running out the door, like excited children. One of them even almost dropped his spear on his foot, before quickly grabbing it. Ah. Giving weapons to goblins may have been… a recipe for self-injury. Well! I’m sure it’ll either be fine or not my problem!
Sandra looked at me, briefly showing a hint of annoyance at having her language lessons interrupted, before going back to the blueprints for the City and developing them further. Honestly… I almost couldn’t follow it now. I had been there every step of the way but not that the overlay and the village area was made, Sandra was charting out streets and roads, different areas for an important buildings and developing our sewer system. Currently, it was pretty barebones. Destroying some stuff with the dungeon core was hard as hell. Others… not so much. It still took a drain of mana, the same way summoning food for goblins took a drain of mana, but it was with standable. As long as everyone gave, basic amenities could be fulfilled. Showers, food, water, and waste removal. It was pretty clearly by design, since there was a whole section in the Dungeon Core “menu” just for maintenance.
It sometimes struck me how insane that was. I… I just had solved hunger. Boom. Done. Little big of magic and no one starves or dies of thirst ever again. No droughts. No complicated processes or issues with waste. The only reason Sandra was working on it was probably because it still needed an ‘area’ to remove it. It couldn’t, well, didn’t, just remove it right away. There was a small space underneath the village for it. All those different toilets had to connect to the same pipes and that pipe to reservoir, which automatically spent mana to ruthlessly remain cleaned and destroy anything that gets inside it.
Sadly, nothing living, or I’d have a new kind of trap to use on my enemies.
“Sandra! I need some help.”
She looked up. “What is it?”
“Magic!”
It was finally time for me to get some more information on magic!
“Uh… but… I’m no mage…”
“Doesn’t matter! I’m a slime in a forest! I have no idea what magic can or can’t do. I’ve just been throwing out dark balls to blind people and well… that’s it! So, what can you tell me?!”
I was excited! Finally, some real help and direction with my magic of all things! No longer shall you be in the background, mostly useless, and hardly used!
Sandra looked down at me, looking profoundly uncomfortable.
“I.. uh…… I know that mages can shoot out stuff?”
I waited for more. Sandra said nothing more.
“Wait, that’s it?!” I said.
“I’m not a mage! I’ve heard everyone who gets the mage class starts off by shooting stuff, usually fire or ice or something, but that’s almost all I know!”
“No darkness? You’ve had to have heard of darkness mages right? Ot some cool other types of mages!”
“Slimy… King Slime. I lived in a small village all my life. I hunted deer on the outskirts of the wolf forest, I sewed clothes for people, I married a boy that became a man, and had a beautiful daughter. I barely saw any adventurers and barely ever left. The capital was nearby, but that was the only time I really left my village. I’m a mother and a wife, not a mage teacher!” Sandra huffed but her words made me… annoyed.
“Sandra… you’re so much more than that. Heck, you think I plan a city? Or teach common? Or think of things you do? In fact, as the King of the Slime Empire and current ruler of Slimetopia, I’m officially appointing you as my personal teacher!”
“What?!”
“Yup! So, tell me! All the stories you’ve ever heard of magic! And then we’ll go over everything I’ve been trying to do and what I learned and what you think and we’ll figure it all out together! After all… we both want me to live after all right? So helping me get stronger is in your best interest! Oh! And we’ll go over my stats and everything too.”
Now Sandra looked extremely uncomfortable.
“S-Slimy… King Slime… I… You… That’s personal information…”
“Huh? Who cares! Oh! And I have a bunch of strange skills but don’t worry about it. We’ll go over it all in time. And then I’ll help you with the city planning. Oh and I might be able to help with teaching the goblins common? Not sure! After we teach that group, they can teach others. Common seems extremely suspiciously easy to learn, so it’d be no issue. It’s going to be a busy day with you today!”
Sandra looked town at Tilia, the plans, the door the goblins left from, and then back down to me.
“...I’m going to die of overwork.”
“Nonsense! I can just make you immortal.”
“WHAT?!”
Oh. Did I forget to mention that? What a productive day this is going to be!
