When watching Episode 1: The Boy in the Iceberg, how many people anticipated Aang encountering these kinds of politically murky waters?

2021-10-15 06:09:26 +0000 UTCBa Sing Se is also accepting a massive number of refugees and actually providing them with the means to start a life there. We don't know very many details about that particular system and I'm sure it has a bunch of flaws, but I like that the political system there has positive qualities that fit right in with all its negative ones. That its hyperfixation on security doesn't automatically include a prejudice against outsiders. Not that prejudice doesn't exist there, I mean caste systems result from and engender prejudice and refugees are almost definitely living predominantly in poorer districts, but the city is a last refuge for a great many people.
