Playing catch up. Here's one of those episodes that you might not think of when listing your favorites, but it is nevertheless a great episode. I love the way this show uses their characters. I enjoy comparing Avatar with both GOT and Buffy because it has a ton of things in common with both. (But GOT and Buffy have far less (no, fewer) things in common with each other.)

2021-10-13 10:11:13 +0000 UTCEven though Sokka was a little too flippant about lying to the owl, I really like how he takes charge in this episode. This show recognizes that most physically powerful or most important to the cause does not necessarily mean most capable of leadership. We aren't just *told* Sokka is important to the group despite being the only non-powered human character (which I think happens a bit too much with Xander), he proves that he is important again and again. And his contributions feel as though no one else could have made them. Disrespectful as it may be, they needed to get info on the Fire Nation and Aang and Katara were not going to pursue it aggressively enough. They needed Sokka's ability to prioritize in stressful moments.
