just incase about the cast....hogarth hughes was voiced by eli marienthal...dean mccoppin was voiced by harry connick jr...hogarth's mother annie was voiced by jennifer aniston...the iron giant was voiced by vin diesel and kent mansley was voiced by christopher mcdonald.

FYI the war the movie is commenting on is the post WW2 cold war vs the Soviet Union, and specifically the "Red Scare" time period when people were persecuted in the US for being too 'unpatriotic'. The movie's commenting on political hate and propaganda. Like at 9:46 his comic cover is titled "The Red Menace", and all the other scary films and movies Hogarth sees. Overall, the movie is also heavily influence by the plot of one of the first super famous sci fi movies ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ (1951), which was a veiled commentary on the Cold War also. (And Iron Giant has a big cameo in Speilberg's "Ready Player One" movie, so Speilberg was probably a fan but not too sure of the connections.)

I still remember watching this film in the theater when I was 6. A hidden gem for sure. I'm glad you two enjoyed it!
