COMMISSIONS?

Since the start of VP, I've constantly received messages for commissions but I'm hesitant for a number of reasons. One of my hesitations is pricing. I have no idea what would be a fair commission price so I bring the question to you. You know my work, you know my style. Lemme know what you think...it would really help me get an idea.

1. Would you be interested?
2. How much would you be willing to pay for a custom VP video?
3. What matters most to you in a custom commission?
4. Would you prefer different commission tiers (ex., Basic, Standard, Premium) with varying levels of customization?

and last but not least, you can answer this in the comments if you wish to do so.
5. Do you have any specific requests or expectations for commissioned videos?

This is just from my eyes though, the monthly payment would be much more consistent for you. Maybe you could offer both? See which one people use more

What feels the most fair is singular pricing, like per video. I can’t speak for anyone but myself but I might be more hesitant to set up a $40/month payment for one 10-15 minute video a month. I’d be much more willing to pay for a commission piece at around $10/minute with a 5 minute minimum or something like that because committing to something at that price point that I might not even use every month is questionable. This set up might allow you to schedule better based on when the requests come in rather than having an influx of videos to make at the beginning of every month. But you might prefer that idk. I think your work is definitely worth more than $5 a minute though, especially for something custom.

Thank you for this input! 👍

If it helps at all, could compare it to other machinama creators. A few that I follow have specific Patreon tiers, usually around $40 that allow that patron to request a video every month. You could set it up where it’s a flat 10-15 minutes or whatever. And then obviously depending on how long it takes you to create videos, you could put a limit on the number of people allowed to sign up per month. If you want to allow more people to request a commission then don’t do the tier and basically have a wait list. Make it known when the next person in line is up to request. Start at a flat rate for a specific time amount and if they want it longer or more detailed, can add additional costs.
