I voted puddle because at least people won’t accidentally step on a gross sweaty humanoid as opposed to a puddle.

I assumed Odo didn't want to turn into a puddle for more practical reasons (other than shame). When in puddle form (I assume) a changeling can't control where they "flow" and could go somewhere gross or dangerous, someone could step in them, or be cleaned up by station sanitation, etc...Also, I guess if Odo was really ashamed of being a sweaty humanoid, he could change into another shape, like a sweaty/melty bowl of ice cream.
