At the start of the episode Picard and Beverly debate genetic weapons and genocide, and he says “we’ll worry about the ethics later.” Then later in the episode he is confronted with the consequences of Starfleets genetic experiments and warcrimes on the changelings, and the devotion to revenge that created in Vadic, I expected that moment to be a turning point… but he’s not moved at all, instead he plans more warcrimes and prepares to murder Vadic. What the hell? I think I’m done with NeoTrek if they make more serialized stuff like Picard. In the 90’s we saw Picard grapple with his desire to commit genocide due to his personal trauma at the hands of the Borg, but at the end of the episode he saw the error in that choice, and he decided to do the right and moral thing, letting Hugh go. In serialized NeoTrek we end the episode with Picard willing to commit genocide and then also planning to murder a prisoner, and we have to hope that next week he will see the error in his ways. Maybe it will be 2 weeks? Three? Four???
