The Adaptations of Anne Frank

I've heard it said to never be too sincere in these YouTube videos, to keep a little emotional distance, a little cheek. I never feel particularly comfortable allowing myself to get too vulnerable, too serious, in front of the entire Internet. For that, and for many other obvious reasons, making this video has been difficult for me. But I am being completely sincere when I say that the story of Anne Frank means a great deal to me. I've grappled for the past two years over how I might talk about that on this channel in a way that's respectful and might hopefully be interesting to all of you. Given that I discuss media, I decided I wanted to compare how different storytellers have fictionalized these real events, taking the story from the page to the screen. So in this video, I take three of my favorite adaptations and explore their interpretations, their focus, their deviations from reality.

I know it's very different from what I usually cover here, but I do hope you'll give it a chance. Obviously there is some discussion and depiction of the Holocaust, so please be advised. That said, I don't think the video ever gets *too* dark. What little footage I use related specifically to, say, concentration camps, is all from movies, nothing from real life. While death certainly lingers around the subject matter, my focus, and the focus of the movies I'm examining, is more on how these people in hiding lived. Whatever your level of familiarity is with the subject matter, I think you should be able to easily follow the video and pick up some details you might not have known.

Next Monday marks what would have been the real Anne Frank's 94th birthday. This is probably the biggest video I've ever done, and I hope it's something you find worth watching. This is very much a passion project for me, and I hope I managed to do it justice. Thank you so much for your support that allows me to devote time to create something like this. I struggle to imagine how I could have possibly made a video like this pre-2020, and if I had, it probably would have been the only video for months. As it is, I ended up being three days late finishing this one. I've literally worked 15 hour days for the past three days to try to get it out in a timely manner. Suffice it to say, my brain is such mush right now that I have no idea if what I'm writing here makes the slightest bit of sense. I will add things like the video description and chapter breaks later. I'm very interested to hear your thoughts on all of this. However, for right now, I am going to step away from the computer and try to find out what I've missed in the outside world. Love you all.
