Early Access Dragon Ball Dissection!

The thing is DBZ is just Dragon Ball. This channel looks at all of Dragon Ball and not an arbitrary cutting-off point which is what DBZ was. There was no artistic reason for DBZ to exist outside of it being a new producer and to get better ratings as starting a "new series" gets in more viewers than continuing a long-running one. As for Gohan, I'm frustrated with how this all turned out. But, Toriyama clearly cannot write a reactive protagonist. Gohan is reactionary as in he reacts to threats he does not seek them out. Goku is a proactive protagonist and fits more into Toriyama's writing style. While disappointing he tried to fit Gohan into his Goku-sized hole but it did not work as Gohan is not Goku. As for Super... it's okay. The Broly movie was TIGHT, and I did enjoy Battle of the Gods. As for the Goku Black Arc and Tournament of Power they were okay... Both seemed to overstay their welcome and would have worked better as a Dragon Ball movie. Though based on the trailers we've had for Super Hero, maybe Gohan gets to assert himself into a protagonist role for a film? Maybe? I hope so as I do like him a lot as a character and it does seem to be ahead of the Super Manga as Pan is a child now and not a toddler.

The way Kid Buu's rebirth works has always made sense to me too. Evil Buu is just the evil within Buu given form and he looks like Fat Buu because he came from Fat Buu. The way Buu works in general is one of the reasons I like him: The stuff he brings to the table is so intriguing to me that they give me lots of speculation to chew on. (That the video games have gotten a lot of mileage out of "what-if" absorption forms for him is a testament to this.) As for Kid Buu in general, I'd argue that while he may not be a character anymore, he still has personality, if that makes any sense. He's still weird, silly, sometimes cheeky, and ultimately still having fun doing what he does- if only in an instinctual way; there's just no characterization built off of those traits anymore since there's no conscious mind driving it.

Well, the funny thing is, another god rant was originally was part of this episode. It was in the script. I recorded it. Then I looked at it and realized it was the longest DBD recording session I'd ever done. I doubted it would have fit in one episode even if I didn't have four other videos to do the same month. Cutting that section in its entirety still resulted in a full-length episode, and since it wasn't specific to a chapter, I could cut it and still hit the movie where it was supposed to be. So don't be too worried. Another big god rant is coming in 2022. It's already written and recorded!

Gotta say, my one gripe with this otherwise phenomenal episode is the lack of another god rant. After part 6 I couldn’t wait to hear you tear into the asinine introduction of another tier of god alongside 3 other gods.

Tales from the Nuzlocke

I think an easy explanation for why Vegito defuses is that because Vegeta is dead and Goku is alive, Vegito's body is unstable.

This whole arc itself is trash. It’s going to get the lowest spot on the rankings. The arc starts with Gohan as the MC. Goku is dead and Vegeta dies. Goku says the younger generation should learn how to fight the world for themselves. Yet the show ends with a dead Vegeta and a resurrected Goku to finish the Manga. When Dragon ball z itself is really about the progression of Gohan. Then to now be stuck in super where everything revolves around them still. It’s hard to watch

Based on how Gohan gave an absolute beatdown to Super Buu, it would have been a one-sided beatdown of Kid Buu. Goku didn't even try to fight Buutanks, but he did hold his own against Kid Buu... well it would have been very satisfying, but as the Final Fight of Dragon Ball... not so much. This should tell us that Toriyama leaving behind Gohan was probably a logical and artistic choice. How disappointing would it have been to watch Gohan just destroy Kid Buu? I think it was a bold and smart decision.

I don’t believe the Gohan Goten and trunks would be just watching. At this point Gohan is stronger then goku and Vegeta. Even if he couldn’t beat buu. He would have been extremely helpful in what eventually happen anyways

RG13

Controversial opinion... but I like Kid Buu. He is weaker than the previous forms so Goku and Vegeta have a chance against him. He is a representation of Chaos and Evil (I'm using capital letters here for a reason) so Goku and Vegeta two characters who have both represented chaos and evil in the past fighting against their greatest sins make sense! I'm also okay with Gohan being left behind. This is Toryama leaving behind the easy way out button. Gohan would easily beat Kid Buu at this point and it is a major anti-climax if he went this route. Goku and Vegeta are strong, but would still struggle against Kid Buu. So, good job Toriyama for keeping up the tension without using the "wait for the strongest guy to arrive" trope. I actually like this direction a fair bit! What I don't like is how you mentioned... how we got here. Toriyama was really pushing Gohan as the lead and Goten and Trunks as the next generation. So having the "old guard" basically defeat the embodiment of Chaos and Evil is ooooh so frustrating. I love the Buu Arc... I enjoy it a lot!!!! But, it is probably Toriyama at his writing worst. I enjoy the first half of the story a lot! The most I have since the early Freeza Arc... but the last half where it basically devolves into a tennis match is my least enjoyed part in all of Dragon Ball. However, I will give Toriyama credit for making the Final Battle with an enemy that is not the strongest in the series (Buuhan is till Super) rather one that narratively makes the most sense.
