I don't think Goku ever cared. It isn't that kind of series. The goal of the conflicts is fight to the death. It isn't DC or Marvel. Goku tried his hardest to kill General Blue, He killed Tao Pai Pai, Red and Black. Tambourine, Drum and Piccolo Daimao. He meant to kill Freeza, and convinced Gohan to Kill Cell. Goku isn't Batman or Spider-man, he isn't a hero like that. Never was.

Yea it doesn't make sense, unless they say light but mean Ki. Most aliens in DB like Freeza force doesn't understand ki. So MAYBE his Ki is being eaten too?

The cringiest part of all this is that Goku literally de-transforms once his "light" has been taken. Like, eating the light he emits shouldn't make him power down. Then again, it's DB

Not just that, but Kaioshin says he’s stronger than Freeza, while Trunks demonstrates he’s stronger by actually defeating and killing Freeza.

I just realized something. Goku being nonchalant about killing Yakon and being fine with Vegeta killing Pui Pui does bring into question the morality of the characters at this point. It’s never said that they need to kill the minions to advance to the next level, so them doing that could be considered twisted, but they went in the ship not just to defeat Babidi and prevent Boo from being released. They went there to kill Dabura to free Piccolo and Kuririn, as killing him (not defeating him) is the only way to undo the stone spell. It’s dark, but seems to be necessary to win. At what point does pragmatic killing become wrong for these characters? I don’t have the answer, but it’s an interesting topic.

I think another thing is that Trunks was introduce as strong, but ultimately a mortal. Kaioshin (not sure if I spelled that right) is introduced as being a god above King Kai. So in a sense he has bigger shoes to fill and doesn't really seem to do anything impressive to match his status.
