Not only does MMPR struggle to adapt elements from a two-parter they largely skipped the first part of, they also graft on an entirely-unrelated "Trini is afraid of heights" plot. This one... is... quite fun.

I do have to wonder if they made this like they made later seasons the episode would be explicitly about a space shuttle and the Rangers would have to rescue the astronauts who freed Rita. I mean do we ever find out what happened to them after Day of the Dumpster?
2020-07-14 15:46:52 +0000 UTCIt is crazy how disjointed "High Five" is, but I still like it anyway. I think this might be the biggest "growing pains" episode the series had and I bet it was filmed early. I believe Skull's actor said "No Clowning Around" was the first completed episode but this feels really early and like they didn't quite know how to match Sentai footage. But I don't think I quite agree with your view on the dissonance between the American characters and the Sentai footage in this particular episode, in that I don't think of it as brainwashing. More like the huge powerup they get and the face covering helmets make them feel a lot safer to take risks they otherwise wouldn't. Maybe it is just me projecting my own fear of heights and personality but I feel like it would make it a lot easier if I suddenly got a near invincible suit thrown on me and the ability to jump 100 stories with barely any effort.
