First Time Watching The Blues Brothers!!!

Blank earned his pay on that YT edit, that's all I can say; but it was so much fun watching the full-length reaction of you movin' to the music. I can forgive you for not instantly recognizing and/or struggling to recognize certain people due to them all being 44 years younger than they are today, and R.I.P. to those who are no longer with us. However, a man with a gray beard having trouble instantly recognizing so many of them is making me feel ancient. Thanks for that, JL!!!!! ~Laughs~

I'd just finished watching the YT edit, and am getting ready to watch the full-length reaction now. By far my new favorite reaction of yours. I could go into who Cab Calloway is (The man who brought Jive to the masses in the 1930's & 40's), but you can probably get much better information from any 85-90 year old people you might know who would have had much more exposure to Jive dancing and Jive talk of the era. When Motown came along, it stuck more to the Rhythm & Blues roots, and the Jazz & Jive roots sort of fell by the wayside for a time. Performers like Sammy Davis Jr. had more of a Jive influence in their music and dance styles; while Hip-Hop has definitely had a strong Jive influence, even if indirectly and unknowingly. Thus, Cab Calloway was one of the band leaders who brought Jive to the masses (Even wrote the Hepster Dictionary of Jive, circa 1939). There are some excellent videos of him and his band, along with other performers from the era (such as the Nicholas Brothers) on YT. I recommend you check some of them out. Look for their earlier stuff, as opposed to the return to the spotlight following his appearance in this movie. It's best to see him in his prime. The movie, Airplane, which you already reacted to, took Jive talk to the extreme...... and was really kind of the last hurrah of Jive talk. The two actors were basically given the lines (that we see in subtitles) and were told to translate those lines into pure Jive (1970's version). What we see in that movie, along with the lines they gave to actress Barbara Billingsley, was the creation of those two actors.

Chaka Khan was one of the singers backing up James Brown Cab Calloway was the first black musician to sell a million records and was a popular swing singer in the 30s. John Lee Hooker was a blues singer and in fact did write Boom Boom (despite what the man is yelling at him). One of my fav movies and a joy to watch it with you.

Oh hell yeah!!! Been waitin for this one. My fave action/comedy/musical ever!! Seen it over 100 times , made a custom soundtrack with every song used in order of use , and am proud to say I even have a floor tile from the mall used in the film.(As well as a set of blueprints of said mall) This film is a prime example of a film that would , or could NEVER be made today. The talent , dedication , and love alone dictates that. The love of the music got this film and these characters made. Aykroyd and Belushi bonded over Blues music (and many other types) and since their 1st appearance on SNL as Jake and Elwood , these legends were born. A couple of fun facts - The Vatican called the movie a Catholic classic and it should be recommended viewing for Catholics. - An undisclosed portion of the films budget was used for buying drugs.(Mostly cocaine) - Both Belushi and Aykroyd did their own stunts , including driving - John Landis was super excited to get John Lee Hooker to preform Boom Boom live on Maxwell Street . Tons more Fun Facts and Trivia for this one. " It's a 2 Hour and 23 min movie , I've got a bag of stinky weed , cold beer , I'm stoned , and wearing my Ray Bans. '" "Hit it." Peace

He did. Basically he was looking at the cast list trying to figure it out. And it showed Chaka Khan in the cast, which she is, but he got confused, lol
