Also to answer your question - Zac Efron and Zendaya's characters were not based on real people. They were added purely for drama. It wasn't until much later after this movie ended that PT Barnum met up with Bailey and Hutchinson and became partners to create Barnum & Bailey's Circus.

2023-12-22 05:27:18 +0000 UTCI love this movie! One of my favorites! It is VERY LOOSELY based on the life of PT Barnum - the movie absolutely takes many liberties with the story. But the film itself is wonderful as it is. I watch it often, I listen to the soundtrack often. If you get the opportunity, watch the YouTube of Keala Settle (the bearded lady) singing This Is Me for the first time in a rehearsal/read through. She was terrified to sing at first but as she slowly started, the song resonated with her and magic happened! And it just happened to be filmed. It will make you cry. (happy tears) Guaranteed.

I saw it in the theater when it came out and saw it daily there for three months straight (I admit I had movie pass at that time and used it up) and I have the film on dvd as well as have the soundtrack. I even went to see the singalong version at the theater and was the only one in there, but you know I sang my ass off and didn't care who heard! LOL I agree, it is a near perfect film. I love the awesome transitions, the songs, the actors (everyone did such a good job), the story, the set designs and the cinematography. The only thing that I can think of to "dis" was the cgi animals and such, but everything else was so good I don't mind! :) Happy Christmas Brother J, I hope you got my present in the mail. Would love to see you open it!
