First Time Watching La Bamba!!!

Comments

I've watched every documentary regarding these three musicians. I listen to 50s and 60s music all the time and they are always in my playlist. He lost his life over a simple coin toss. They have a beautiful memorial where the crash happened. This is why they said "This is the day music died". The words that Buddy Holly said to Ritchie about the skies belong to the stars was the last thing that was said when they listened to the Blackbox of the plane. I can't imagine how far he would have gone if he had lived. 17 years old......still a baby in my eyes.

At around 1:18:36 when Ritchie's shown playing the older woman sitting next to and looking at him is the real Connie, his mom. And the family party scenes did have the real family members in the scenes.

As you said it's about so much more, but I was just mentioning that the ending of the movie is a big part of that song.

Tony A. Aragon

the pilot on the plane crash was not fully trained, he wasn't certified to fly with just the plane's instruments, and they were flying in a heavy snowstorm so he probably couldn't see. I think it is believed that the pilot got confused and thought they were climbing when they were flying down, the plane is estimated to hit the ground at around 200 mph. They probably never knew it, until they woke up in eternity. there are photos of the crash online. so sad to lose 3 greats all so young buddy holly was only 21.

Summertime blues was Eddie Cocrine.

That is simplifying American Pie quite a bit. While the song is based around the backdrop of the loss of musical heroes and identities when they died, ultimately the song is about the loss of the innocence not only of an individual but of the country as a whole. And the song does it in a truly brilliant way. Just like We Didn't Start The Fire and Creeque Alley, every line has more significance and intentions than if you just take them at face value. So, while American Pie does come from the point of view of someone losing these three musical heroes, it ultimately means much, much more.

Biopics of Selena and El Cantante are other hidden gems. Subtitles are useful

The Song "oh Boy" is a lot better when you actually hear it sung by Buddy Holly who came out with the song.

ahh the days when it was truly rock and roll i will take this over anything in the last 40 yrs+

Hope at some point the buddy holly story will follow this one.

The song, American Pie, is pretty much about the deaths of Holly, Valens and the Big Bopper. The Day The Music Died. One more thing, Weird Al has a parody of La Bamba called Lasagna.

Tony A. Aragon

The translation of the song is very underwhelming, actually. It's a traditional Mexican song (like they showed when down in Tijuana) about having a good time and dancing the Bamba, which itself is a traditional Mexican dance.

Hope you enjoyed, J. I haven't watched this one in awhile. A music fan such as me loves movies like this :) The movie is about Ritchie Valens who died on February 3rd 1959 along with Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper, also known as the day the music died. Ritchie performed the song in the 50's and this biopic was made in 1987 and named for the song.
