First Time Watching Star Wars: A New Hope!!!

Comments

Here I am, 9 months late to the party. I don't think I've ever watched Episode IV from beginning to end in it's entirety. I've seen most of it in chunks over many years.

Rabbit S

The primary problem with the Disney Trilogy is that they turned over full control to the directors, and then flipped back and forth between the directors..... which resulted in too many holes in the plot as each director disregarded things the other director had done. If they placed oversight of the storyline in the hands of one person who had full oversight of the project (The way George Lucas had full control over the trilogies he'd created) then they wouldn't have encountered all those issues. It also didn't help that Carrie Fisher passed away between the 2nd and 3rd movies of the Disney Trilogy..... thus severely limiting what they could have her character say and do in the final movie. It also didn't help that JJ Abrams completely disregarded George Lucas' input as to what direction the franchise should move in, which he provided to Disney when they purchased Lucasfilm from him. I mean, seriously, let's completely disregard one of the greatest story tellers of all-time, because what does he know? He only created the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises. Best to disregard anything he has to say or advise. What's he ever done that's been successful? LMAO

Disney does what Disney does, holds onto the originals without ever showing them, and then they'll likely release them on either the 50th or 75th anniversary for a limited time. Lucas had released a Limited Edition DVD collection of the original Trilogy in 2008 that contains both the original theatrical releases as well as the remastered ones (The actual 1977 release as opposed to the 1981 re-release with Chapter IV: A New Hope added into the opening scrawl), which is what I have in my movie collection. When I'm watching the reactions, I obviously have to watch the remastered editions, but otherwise I only watch the originals anymore. Especially Return of the Jedi..... I just never liked the new ending to the movie. I actually did the same thing with the entire Alien franchise. They released a box set with both the original theatrical releases along with the Director's Cut versions which everyone now is always stuck watching. Readding the deleted scenes is fun for the additional backstory, but takes away from the tension and suspense, as well as disrupting the pacing of the movies. There's just something about Directors always wanting to put more into stuff after the fact..... and it almost always proves out the "Less is More" adage.

Tim D.

Can’t believe you never saw this! I was 4 when it came out, and I still remember the theater experience. Han was my first love. I had R2D2 Underoos! Can’t wait to watch Empire with you. It’s my favorite of all the Star Wars movies! I’m all about the original trilogy. Some of the best characters ever created. The other movies? Meh. Some are entertaining, but they don’t have the same magic (at least not for me). And I do actually have the originals on DVD from before the offensive CGI was added for no reason. George Lucas is beyond brilliant, but he made a shit call tinkering around with the effects. Not that I’m still bitter…much.

kakophony

This is also my first time watching the newer version of the original trilogy. I still have them on VHS but my VCR is busted n haven't got a new one yet. So Im seeing the CGI n laughing n also some of it is pretty cool.

Corey

I was always a big fan of Vader too but that's cuz he struck me as a boss right of the bat. But I have asthma too it ain't easy living but after hearing your story I love him more. Keep your lungs 💪

Corey

Yes! Please react to Clerks (1994)!

Jaclyn McKewan

No matter how many times I've seen Star Wars, it never gets old. I enjoyed watching a newbie watch this movie and seeing their reaction. Most of your questions will be answered over the span of the movies and then you will be saying STFU over and over. The next one, Empire Strikes Back, is my favorite one.

Miss Gigglebox

For educational purposes only: Yeah, technically you have to download them in "pieces" as part of a torrent file, but the process is completely automated, using a torrent client. Lots of resources out there to see how those are done. It's very easy. I'd say more and point places, but I'm being way over-the-top cautious, so I don't get anyone in trouble (though, I'm sure it's no problem). Funny enough, your situation is actually perfectly set up for their distribution. They aren't trying to make illegal copies, but they want people who already own them to be able to have archival/digital backups of content they already legally own.

Aceldamia

all those guys have talent although other than the MoS theme there isn't a single bit of their music that i could identify i don't think outside the movie, and i would have to see the credits to know it was them for the most part. there are non-JW films where i know the music and ID with the film but not many. John Williams is simply on another level from everyone else. I think Spielberg said it best: ""Without John Williams, bikes don't fly, nor do brooms in Quidditch matches, nor do men in red capes. There is no Force. Dinosaurs do not walk the earth. We do not wonder, we do not weep, we do not believe."" I don't think there are centuries left but that is a different conversation.

frost1977

He's the GOAT IMO. Him, Zimmer, Silvestri, Goldsmith, Shore, Horner (and the others) to me do what the classical composers like Beethoven and Mozart do, but better. They'll be teaching these guys centuries from now.

Blank EOM

don't you have to down load those in pieces or something, thats the only way i found them a very complicated process for someone who isn't tech savy. I do have the special edition box set that includes the theatrical films on DVD. but would like digital copies.

frost1977

The music is John Williams it will always be on point. John Williams is the greatest of all time when it comes to music for film. His impact on film and pop culture are an objective fact of film history. Plus over 50 academy award nominations. ET, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Harry P, Jaws and SUperman which might be his single best work. You can walk in to a place and start playing his Superman theme or Star Wars and even people who haven't see the movies are gonna know the music. he may not be everyones favorite but there is no one else on his level at least not yet. 92 years old and he is still doing it.

frost1977

he needs to see at least the last half of it mando 2.5

frost1977

I think it is my favorite not counting the OT, it takes on a whole new look if you have watched Andor. The Andor series actually make the empire scary the way they were in the empire.

frost1977

Rogue One is actually my favourite of all the Star Wars movies, including the two trilogies.

Martin Nicholls

I've just got the widescreen vhs of New Hope. It's one of 6 or 7 VHS's in my big ole movie collection.

g g gooding

I tried to bump it up as much as I could. Hopefully it was a one time issue tho

Blank EOM

Brother J, I can so relate...as a kid I was always sick with allergies and asthma. I still suffer from both as an adult, but I have learned what to do to reduce all that mess. I love that you are going into Star Wars. :) You really seemed to get into this one. I wanted to ask, can you please turn your mic back up? After you turned it down I could barely hear you. I even have external speakers on my laptop and your voice dropped in volume so much after you turned your mic down. I had you turned all the way up too. I can always turn the volume down if it is too loud, but I can only turn it up so far and you are still too low when your mic is turned down. :) Pleeeeeeease.

Echo Moon

spare him the horrors of that god awful boba fett show lol.

Mike

The original trilogy of Starwar is my Favorite trilogy. the Disney 7-8-9 ESP 8 & 9 is my most hated, ep 8 was the only time I have left a Star Wars film depressed. it is just a part of how much I love the Star Wars Universe and the OT crew. I hope the stories of what is planned with the mandoverse and doing some retconning of the disney trilogy are true. The best movie Disney has put out for star wars is Rouge one great film and Solo is also a good one.

frost1977

I have to disagree the disney trilogy ESP 8 & 9 are bad- 8 imo does luke dirty. and the mandoverse from what i have been hearing is going to be ret-conning a lot of that trilogy changing what happens to the characters.

frost1977

I have to disagree with the order after 1-3- he really only needs certain key episodes in clone wars, but to stay in Cannon order Rebels, Andor season 1 , the rouge one & solo [those could go in either order] then hit the mando verse including book of boba and asokha.

frost1977

I third this idea, Kevin Smith is great

Crypt0sis

This is my favorite of all the star wars movies. I've easily seen this one 50 times.

Crypt0sis

Yeah, all the Family Guy and Robot Chicken SW-related content is amazing.

Aceldamia

oh most definitely!

pkleo73

I agree the names are dumb. It's because they are "scanned at full 4K, cleaned at 4K, and rendered at 4K."

Aceldamia

Bruh... Bruh... We about to ride across the galaxy together. Fuck whatever else I got planned. You know you gotta go 4-6, 1-3, clone wars, rogue1, and Mando S1 & s2 right? It's a motherfucking journey.

Mike

I'll definitely look these up, but that naming policy is stupid. (Or, I'm stupid, as it took me a few seconds to realise 77, 80 and 83 were the years and not the frame rate).

AdrianF

Please don't listen to haters like CT.

Ashley

Drowning is a really apt analogy for an asthma attack

Jim Frykman

Filling in some of the questions: They renamed it "Episode 4" four years after it came out, a year after Empire Strikes Back came out. Oddly, for a year or so after Empire, it was named Episode 5 while A New Hope wasn't named Episode 4 yet (Empire was always "Episode 5"). There is little reason for anyone but overly-obsessive fans to know this, but the better shooting stormtroopers at the start were a special group of elite stormtroopers called Vader's Fist. Can't really detail more about them without (minor) spoilers. Also, I'm shocked to see so many comments so far, and not a single "Han Shoots First" mention.

Aceldamia

They are easy to find anymore. Do a search for either Harmy's Despecialized Editions or the Star Wars 4k77 project. High quality scans of the original versions of the films. There is also 4K80 (high quality Empire) and 4K83 (high quality Jedi). I have 4K77 and 4K83, but haven't really looked into 4K80. Not totally sure it's even released, actually. Note: I should add that it needs to be mentioned that technically speaking, these versions are not legal, at least to buy and sell.

Aceldamia

I concur with this idea

pkleo73

That’s gotta be on merch of yours. ‘Luke raw dogged that thing’ edit: Chewy is Han’s co-pilot dammit!

ChickensAreRacist

Sorry that was just too exciting a notion to believe at first. Now it’s grand and I’m watching with that glee one gets in such rare situations.

ChickensAreRacist

Any chance we can get to clerks/view askiewniverse after star wars? Feel like they would fall perfectly in line.

Thad Moone

Also. Blank. Don’t know if it’s possible. But how about the Family Guy Star Wars movies after all this?!?

Webwyrm

JL. About the added CGI. They were already remastering the movies for an anniversary release on dvd or blue ray and the theatres. Lucas decided to add in the parts he wanted in the movies but they couldn’t afford or didn’t have the tech for. It’s a very controversial topic among fans. I enjoy it all… but it’s next to impossible to see the ORIGINAL new hope. It would have to be an old hard copy.

Webwyrm

I'm here for the star wars journey bro. Ill even watch the animated shit with you(which I never seen myself)

Ashley

LOTR and Harry potter aint shit compared to Star Wars and Star Trek.

Ashley

Holy fuck what? I never ever ever nerver expected this. This is amazing!

Ashley

Let's go!

Jim Frykman

First Time.

Blank EOM

Only one he saw was Last Jedi when he went with me and a few friends when it came out when I was home for the holidays in 2017. The rest of it is gonna be new to him, although some things just because of pop culture probably won't be too shocking to him.

Blank EOM

FIRST TIME????!!!!

Big Frank

I mean, he's never actually seen it. LoL

Blank EOM

Everything Disney did became Star wars canon. And if it's Star wars Canon it's worth watching! I never thought I would live to see the last three movies get made but miraculously I did!

John Hampton

HECK YEAH! I have faith Blank(man) wont lead you wrong, but I've seen reactors screw up the series by starting on Ep.1 The Phantom Menace. They went from near 100k watches per video to... biggest video in the last 6 months is 29k views.

Gryff

Watching 1-9 plus rogue 1

JL

Clone Wars and Rebels are surprisingly great. Takes patience but not too much.

ChickensAreRacist

The first six episodes are the only ones that matter. Forget what Disney did.

CT

I’m gonna tell myself Murder ain’t ever seen this. Then I’m going to enjoy it! Edit: I see that M Bison btw.

ChickensAreRacist

Yessir!!

SultanOfSwing

JL, the MVP reactor, is gonna do Star Wars now? Oh I'm down. I already know I'm gonna watch this one like 3 times and the the youtube version another 3 times. I'm gonna lock in at least 6 views man, seriously 🤣 Keep up the great work. Appreciate you guys. I dont even care if he's seen the trilogies before or not, I'm still hyped
