I'm a really good driver, I passed my test with only 1 minor fault. I learnt in my 30s as never needed to drive before that point. I was immediately much better at reversing into parking spaces than going in forwards though ;) when I was learning I did not know I was autistic. I remember my instructor telling me he had the impression I was good at remembering to do many things at once. I'm not sure if that's true though! Definitely not all the time!! I'm also ADHD, so interesting to think about how both impact on driving. I seem to have really good spacial awareness for objects and understanding objects in 3D space, but terrible proprioception!

2025-05-16 19:50:51 +0000 UTCI cannot drive (I did try) due to terribly dangerous concentration - I got diagnosed with adhd first! Intrigued how it is different for non adhders

2025-04-24 14:09:31 +0000 UTCIt can be argued that autistic peopel can drive better, since good drving is aabout learning techniques and having a system of how to do things.

I'm Autistic, Now What
2025-04-16 14:25:05 +0000 UTCDriving. So many variables sometimes. So much anxiety. And my wife had some space and time distortions that were occasionally "interesting".

2025-04-16 03:37:36 +0000 UTCIt seems like comparing our experiences with driving might be more universal, maybe not as much in the UK but here in the US.

2025-04-15 20:27:36 +0000 UTCWent to a big car show in my tiny sh*thole town and the local police had a "recognize autism" stand and truck. That was a shock. I really did not expect to see that.

2025-04-15 20:26:14 +0000 UTCConflicted between the first & last... after I figured out I was autistic, I realized my mother was autistic to the point of being almost nonverbal. Took me several decades to realize that was not the way it was for everyone.

2025-04-15 16:54:55 +0000 UTCTorn between driving and news! I struggle so much driving that I had to go with that. You and I are so similar, Meg, I imagine we have had identical experiences behind the wheel!
