Children of Men | Full Length Reaction + Watch-along!

Imagine directing Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban, then the next year directing this! Although I love Alfonso, firstly, I'm not a huge fan of the film. Probably is my least favorite of his. It's a little too self-important and dour in tone for my tastes, but I absolutely enjoy it's long single shots and I appreciate the personalities and acting of some of the characters. When Julian was shot, that was when I kind of stopped caring that much, at least for my first watch when I saw it in the theater For the rest of the movie, I remember getting really cynical when I first saw it. Seeing it two more times or so now, I really like Theo as a character, more certainly than the first time, but even though Clive Owen did an okay job, there are more emotive actors which I think I would've enjoyed watching play the character a little better. For a type of performance which is of a guy who usually shows little emotion, again... I think he did okay. I wish Marichka and her dog lifetimes of happiness from this point forward. I loved her. When she got left behind, I was happy because it meant that her life was in less danger of dying on screen. When she reappeared, I got sad because I was afraid she was going to die again. Being my third or fourth time watching this, I totally forgot about her character, since I haven't watched it in about 15 years. I really enjoyed the journey I went on from not being sure if we could trust her, to viewing her as being a loyal, selfless, and dedicated to preserving the life of that baby queen who didn't speak a single line of English in the movie.

The title is also itself of biblical meaning from Psalm 115:16 "The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD's; but the earth hath he given to the children of men"

When Julian gets shot there a high pitched tone like how she mentions earlier that when your ears ring its the last time you'll hear that frequency. When They shot that scene which is like a 6 1/2 minute long take a bit of blood splattered on the camera and the director yelled cut but the actors didn't hear him so they left the blood spatter on the screen, I don't think its the very first but tons of films and video games do the blood splat on the screen now and I like to think a lot of them took it from this film where it was actually a mistake 🤣
