The scene with Nacho's father is important for Mike's character because he accepts who he is, and more importantly, what his work is. The line from Nacho's father "You gangsters are all the same" forces Mike to look honestly at himself. At the start of the season we got that scene where Mike says being a criminal doesn't necessarily make you a bad person. We love Mike because of his "moral compass" but I think after this scene he finally accepts that no matter how high the road he takes, a life of crime will always lead to innocent people getting hurt. The good samaritan, the clerk at the money transfer location, Werner, Nacho and Howard. It's definitely a turning point for Mike into becoming the right hand man for a cold hearted drug kingpin. Later on he doesn't hesitate to kill a kid, or at least have him killed on Gus' order. He changed.

2025-01-26 07:39:41 +0000 UTCI really LOVED the scene between Mike and Nacho's father. Nacho's father represents all the wonderful, admirable characteristics of Mike, without any of the corruption. Where Mike would want revenge on whoever killed his son, Manuel doesn't. He is able to move forward even with the pain. He can face it and deal with it, and has no need to harm others because of it. It was a telling scene showing who they both are in contrast to the other. Like they're looking in a mirror, and seeing who they might be if they made different choices. Such amazing storytelling.

2025-01-26 05:38:31 +0000 UTCOne of the things I appreciated about this episode was the subtle hint of timeline of Saul at the end. The “masturbator” he’s discussing on the phone lets us know this was the first day Saul appears on Breaking Bad since he had confused his new client Badger for a masturbator in that BB episode.

2025-01-25 08:13:18 +0000 UTCRegarding the scene with Gus at the bar, it is strongly hinted at throughout Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul that Gus is gay. It is theorized that his partner who Hector killed was more than just a friend, hence Gus’ desire for vengeance. The point of the bar scene is that Gus has the opportunity to be happy. He obviously knows the manager and the two have great chemistry and similar interests. However, when the opportunity is presented for Gus to take their relationship further, he quickly leaves as his purpose for life at that point is not happiness, but revenge.

2025-01-25 07:32:16 +0000 UTCYes, you can just quit being a lawyer if you give your resignation to the BAR and yes you will have to take the BAR again if you wanted to be a lawyer again. A lawyer's certification isn't lifelong either. Like most certifications, you have to renew it every so often, too. It can expire if you don't. Why wouldn't you be able to quit whenever you wanted to? Lol. Its not like lawyers are prisoners to the legal system. Its a job. You can quit whenever you want. Lol. My guess with Gus is that the entire scene was Gus taking a moment to not be a cartel member. That was a peak at the thing that makes Gus truly happy. His genuine escape from a very stressful and rigid life. I think that's all that was. His taste of knowing what life would be like if he just walked away and a celebration of defeating the Salamonicas. Then the realness set back in when he finished his glass. You are soft V, and that's not a bad thing. Everyone starts out soft. The trick is to not become so hard that you can't be soft ever again. Being hard and cold isn't the answer and neither is being soft and emotional. Its in-between. Being able to turn hard when the situation depends on it and being able to appreciate people and the moment when you desire to; that's the balance. Light and dark, good and bad, left and right, right and wrong, love and apathy, need and want, benevolence and maleficence, kind and cruel, hard and soft; two sides of the same coin. Don't pick a side. BE the coin. See the benefits and flaws of each. Know the difference between when its important to lean versus when you desire to lean to either side. Don't apologize for caring, V. That's what a good show is suppose to pull out of you. Writers live for the moments and feels that happen in those that experience their work. That's the power and beauty of storytelling. I'll say this about our characters (all of them, even Jimmy's/Saul's and Kim's clients). They are layered. Everyone out there watching can sit in your chairs or on couches or in beds and judge all you want. Its natural and its ego boosting to feel righteous about "knowing" what is right and wrong for our characters. Trash reality TV shows exist as proof that we enjoy it after all, lol. We all make choices and you can look at these characters as shining examples of right and wrong (whatever your individual interpretations of those are), that's what they are there for. Fictitious characters to take your feels out on. I, however, have lived among these types irl. My life has been saved by them and damaged by them, more than once. The well off and the down trodden. The saints and sinners. The well educated and the dim-witted. They can harm and heal in their own ways. Just because you don't agree with it, or like it, doesn't make it automatically wrong or right. We don't all walk down the same roads in life, we aren't all headed in the same directions, and we aren't all learning the same lessons of life at the same time or at the same speed. We are all trying to survive with the opportunities that we see presented to us, which also means that there are opportunities we miss because we didn't recognize them as ones. We are a flawed species and our survival as a species depends on our flaws because there is no single right or wrong way to experience life. I can't wait until we get back to present day Omaha, lol. Since the background story just caught up with the Saul we knew, I'm assuming the remaining episodes are present day, now?

2025-01-25 03:52:14 +0000 UTC"Let justice be done, though the heavens fall." That's a direct quote of Chuck, he said it right before going in to the hearing that finally exposed his feelings for Jimmy, which led to a whole bunch of circumstances that ended with Chuck wanting to break ties with Jimmy for good..... "You've never mattered all that much to me," which led to his final mental breakdown and suicide.

2025-01-25 03:31:19 +0000 UTCThe significance of the scene with Gus and David, the sommelier - After all the death, after all the fighting, after Gus damning his soul even more with what went down with Nacho, after nearly dying at the hands of Lalo, Gus finds some normalcy in that little moment, flirting and enjoying the moment with his friend there. Almost what life could have been, what Gus' life can be if he chooses, if he would want to have good in his life and forget the revenge he seeks, get over his hate and grief instead of destroying his life in the process as we saw in Breaking Bad. His friend Max in the past called him "compañero" in a more intimate way, before Hector killed Max, and fans' theories were kinda proven in this scene of this episode. Gus, if he wanted, could have continued here and created a normal life, moving on from the past. But he realizes, that no, he doesn't want to, he gets up and walks away, he wants to destroy his enemies, focus his whole being into it, even if he burns himself alive, and Walter indeed does end up doing that to Gus and more.

2025-01-25 02:40:07 +0000 UTCOne thing no one’s mentioned yet is Jimmy’s “consoling” words to Kim. “One day we’ll wake up, brush our teeth and realize we haven’t thought about it. That’s when we’ll know we can forget.” That’s the exact same thing Mike tells Jimmy after Jimmy sees a bunch of people gunned down in the desert. It’s noteworthy how hollow and laughable the sentiment sounds in this situation. They’re never gonna forget what happened with Howard. They’ll never really be over it. It makes me wonder how true it is even when Mike said it, cause in actuality, Mike heard it from Stacey in therapy when she was talking about Matty. Rewatching that scene where Stacey says she was able to make breakfast without thinking about Matty, I always get the sense that Mike isn’t there himself; like he can’t even imagine being able to not think about Matty. He and Jimmy aren’t the sort to process things in the healthiest way, so I don’t think Mike or Jimmy ever go the first hour of the day without remembering their mistakes. There’s a lot of lines like this. They sound like wisdom because Mike says them, but perhaps they aren’t that wise at all really. The truth of what Mike and his moral code amounts to is addressed pretty directly in the scene with Nacho’s father. Mike tries offering some reassurance that “the bad guys” will pay. But to an *actual* good man, more death offers nothing comforting. “You gangsters and your ‘justice’. You’re all the same.” Despite his attempts at having a code, by disappearing Howard forever, Mike is complicit in the exact same thing he despised in Hector. Whereas once Mike went into the desert with a metal detector to unearth Hector’s disappeared victim, now instead he disappears the victim himself. It’s all the more tragic when we remember that Mike too will one day just… disappear, never to be heard from again.

2025-01-25 02:36:29 +0000 UTCWhen you watch justice league after Wonder Woman, be sure its the "SNYDER CUT" dont even think about the theatrical, it was a complete failure and embarrassment of a movie. Zach Snyder came in and redid essentially the whole movie since he didnt direct the theatrical cut. Almost 60% of the movie was reshot and redone and scenes added in, scenes taken out to fit HIS intend vision of the movie. He didnt direct it originally because one of his kids was super sick and died, when he came back he wanted to make this movie the best he could in memory of his child that died who loved all the super hero movies he made.

2025-01-25 02:27:31 +0000 UTCWe see the way that Jimmy and Kim deflect blame away from themselves when speaking with Howard's widow, Cheryl. *Howard was imagining things, it wasn't our harassment, we witnessed Howard doing drugs at HHM... this is what Kim and Jimmy did to assassinate Howard's remaining memory to those who loved him. Contrast this with Mike whose conscience wouldn't allow him to let Nacho's father grieve and not know if his son dead or being held somewhere and suffering at the hands of the Salamancas. Mike admitted that he was present when Nacho died, thereby acknowledging that he was involved in some way. Mike understands Miguel Varga's pain because he lost his son, Matty, to murder, also.

2025-01-25 02:03:31 +0000 UTCFirst, Vicky -- don't ever feel the need to apologize for your emotional reactions. It's why most of us are tuning in to you. They're called "reaction videos" for a reason, lol. 2nd. "May justice prevail or the Heavens fall." The last line of this episode. It's also exactly what Chuck said to Howard in "Chicanery" right after Howard tried to talk him out of testifying. The Heavens did indeed fall for both McGills. 3rd. "Just tell me what you want me to do," Jimmy weeps to Kim in his desperate attempt to keep her, "just tell me what to do and I'll do it!" It's exactly what he said to Chuck back in Cicero when begging Chuck to get him out of his Chicago sunroof debacle, and he wept it exactly the same way. Although some may take that observation to mean Jimmy was trying to con both, I don't think so at all. Back in Cicero, Chuck was all that Jimmy had. In this episode, Kim was all that Jimmy had. And then with nothing and nobody, he turned full fledge Saul. You're right V, this wasn't the most shocking or violent or scary episodes of the series, but it's definitely the most heart-wrenching. Lastly. Vicky, please don't wait so long till episode 10. Without giving anything away, the series takes a big tonal shift that's a lot less difficult. Anyway, don't wait so long please.

2025-01-25 01:35:06 +0000 UTCOh another thing. Many of the pictures they had at the wake for Howard were actual pictures from his actor, Patrick Fabian's instagram!! In fact, I believe they even had to crop Tony Dalton (Lalo) out of a couple as they became good adventure buddies on the show!

2025-01-25 01:17:14 +0000 UTCFinally at the Breaking Bad timeline. And how tragic the final leg of the journey was. I'm telling you, this show, and this ending will totally make you view Saul's scenes completely differently on a BB rewatch. A few things worth pointing out from this episode: - Gus was flirting with the sommelier. It perhaps isn't so clear to pick up on if you aren't aware on what his relationship with his old business partner Max was. He came to the realisation that he cannot excuse having any collateral in the battle he has coming, which we see in BB, and so abandoned that romantic opportunity. - Knowing that Hector knew all through BB that Gus killed Lalo and got away with it is wild. No wonder he was so willing to sacrifice his own life to kill Gus. - Kim gaslighting Cheryl is awful. Perhaps the lowest she ever stooped. No wonder it was then that she decided to get away from things. - This show is effectively a love story from pretty much Episode 1. This is the first time we hear the two say "I love you" and it's 57 episodes in during their break-up. - So I did a bit of research. You can declare yourself "inactive" as a lawyer. This allows you to keep your law license etc but you aren't able to practice. You usually have to meet some financial and educational requirements if it goes beyond a certain time though. - Kim said "apart we're okay" but I don't think she realised quite how much she tethered Jimmy to the ground. Without her there he went full Saul. You're right. He's absolutely hollow man. - He has a mug which says "World's Greatest Lawyer" - Earlier in the show, Kim gave him a gift (twice) that said "World's 2nd Best Lawyer". That's subtly sad :( Great reaction V. The last few episodes are a journey. Can't wait for them! :)

2025-01-25 01:13:31 +0000 UTCI love this show so much! Vicky you completely called it at the end. The magic trick the writers pulled, at the start you're excited to see how Jimmy becomes Saul. But now, by the end, when it actually happens and Jimmy is just gone.... it becomes heartbreaking. Saul Goodman is just a shell of his former self. The ultimate Slipping Jimmy persona. I wouldn't say Kim took away Jimmy's last bit of himself. I'd say Jimmy did that to himself, with his actions. Kim and Jimmy knew what they were doing, and the consequences of their actions got to her. She couldn't live with it. Even though Jimmy is better at hiding it, I don't think Jimmy can live with it either. He just copes by jumping into the lavish, greedy Saul life that he's built. But as Gene Tackovic, his life looks even more empty, being black and white, and hell remember he even fainted in season 3 because of seeing the kid get arrested. All that he did, with Howard, and later on with Walt and Jesse, literally helping him poison a child, it haunts him. Okay so it's been hinted at throughout Breaking Bad and BCS but... Gus' relationship with Max, his former partner.... was not mere friendship. They were lovers, we see Lalo and Hector tease and belittle Gus with homophobic comments like calling them the "Butt Brothers". The scene with the sommelier is super sweet, cause I think it's blatantly obvious... they're flirting with each other. 😅 It's like one of the only scenes Gus has that isn't him being manipulative or having some grander scheme, it looks like he's genuinely enjoying himself, drinking wine and spending time with a man that I think there's clearly an attraction to. I love this scene but it's also sad to think. Imagine a world where Gus could just let go of his hatred and tried to move on in his own life with someone. But as he drinks the blood flavored wine, his smile fades because the blood reminds him of his mission. And he cannot let himself forget. So off he goes, to complete his revenge against the Salamancas. These last four episodes are going to kick into overdrive! I can't wait to see your reactions Vicky! 🙌

2025-01-24 23:49:33 +0000 UTCHoward dedicated his life to HHM. He was more or less groomed to lead HHM by his own father, placing his other dreams to the side to follow his dad’s foot steps. He cut ties with his mentor and best friend Chuck in order to safeguard the firm and its employees and shelled out 8 million dollars of his own money to protect HHM from Chuck, a damaging personal decision which I imagine likely contributed to his marital problems. His entire personality is based around being the most amicable spokesperson for the firm as possible. He was HHM. And now, because of Jimmy and Kim, the firm which he gave his heart, body and soul to is not only irrevocably damaged to the point they have to down size from an entire building to a single floor, anihilating decades of reputation and prestige building, but what remains of the firm is so embarrassed to be associated with Howard, that they renamed themselves to something completely unrelated. And on top of that, the story of Howard Hamlin in the public eye was been rewritten from one of self-growth and moral integrity to one of a rich drug addict who couldn’t change his ways and so gave up in despair, the antithesis of who Howard was. Howard Hamlin has been replaced in everyone's memories by a bizzaro version clone of himself and everything he built in his life has been destroyed. In essence, Jimmy and Kim not only facilitated Howards death, they erased Howard Hamlin from existence and purged him from the timeline.
