In the reality that Heimerdinger and Ekko were in there was no hextech (most likely banned and destroyed after it killed a child, Vi). The episode flips back and forth between a reality where people had to innovate with non hextech means and a reality where it looks like it went too far and destroyed everything. I love the parallels along with the transitions and stark contrast in tone and color scheme in this episode. The part where Ekko sees a flash of Jynx dead on the bridge while he's walking is referencing back to when he and Jynx fought there in the last season and the explosion injured Jynx to the point that they had to inject her with shimmer. I feel like after that point he tries his best to enjoy the little things about being in that reality, while still trying to get back to his. Oh, and I'm pretty sure Heimerdinger got vaporized 😔
