Star Trek (2009) | Full Length Reaction!

Comments

Stargate has the most die hard fans IMO (: ANYWAYS! If you like this, you will probably like The Orville. Its a chill version of Star Trek that became its own thing

I made some lemon squares for my snack,

As for what fans think of it: the diehards do bemoan it being an action movie, but I think on average they do enjoy it. I personally don't enjoy Into Darkness, nor the modern Star Trek shows - Discovery and Picard - because they are in this style and have little substance (though the last season of Picard was really good imo) I do think that the Original series has really interesting and compelling writing, approaching philosophical and cultural issues of the time. The Next Generation to me is the perfection of that Original formula, with Deep Space Nine making a compelling story about war and faith.

MrAlexSan

Honestly, probably the best introduction movie for Star Trek. I'd say watch this, then Star Trek Beyond (I generally recommend skipping Into Darkness only because it really relies on you having previous Star Trek knowledge). But Star Trek Beyond! omg I love that movie. To me, it is the closest to the original series/movie/Next Generation/Deep Space Nine/Voyager. It rounds out this trilogy in a very happy lil bow

MrAlexSan

Nice reaction and great start to an incredible ride

Snacky Munchies

Nice reaction. I hope you'll also do the other two reboot films.

The actress you thought looked like Kirsten Dunst is Jennifer Morrison (best known, by me, anyway, as one of the doctors on the TV show House, but she was also in the Once Upon a Time and This is Us TV shows). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jennifer_Morrison

If you dig this trilogy I would suggest diving into Strange New Worlds which is a prequel to the original series, in the original continuity, but with these modern aesthetics. It carries the heart of the original but with this adventurous attitude.

I need the reactions to Star Trek II-IV, and VI in my life. Pretty please!

Chief

100% this. 1,000% this. Please, please. The journey takes you through the original movies.

Chief

(Not to be confused with Star Trek V)

Bryan

“No way that actually worked!” lol welcome to Star Trek, V

Bryan

Please, please, please, DON'T watch Star Trek: Into Darkness next. I won't say why but you really should watch the original run of movies before continuing with the reboot trilogy.

Yeah the "Old" Spock is the actual Spock from the original timeline. Lenard Nemoy who plays spock has since passed away and has gone down in history as a legendary actor. So let that sink in when you go and watch the older star trek movies. I want to urge you to go back and watching the original movies before continuing with the reboot franchise. Yes, Trekkies do love the reboot franchise, not AS much as some of the original movies but most would agree they are good films.

Hey, V! So glad you enjoyed the Star Trek reboot/prequel/sequel (yeah, it's all 3). Really looking forward to what you think of the next one, Into Darkness.

I'm one of those who might have liked the release order of the movies with viewing of the first two ST series better. That being said, these movies work just fine as an introduction to the Star Trek universe with only some issues in the "easter egg" callbacks and differences in the origin timeline and the alternate timeline (aka "Kelvin Timeline"). Those things will be less clear to you than to those who knew the crew from the 1960s beginning onward. So, welcome to the worlds of Trek...

Michael Labs

Fantastic reaction, and please keep going with the trilogy! It's such a fun ride, especially as a newcomer to the franchise.

I love a lot of various sci-fi shows/movies, including Star Wars (yes it is possible to like both☺️), but what always brings me back to Star Trek is how optimistic the future is portrayed as. While they do have battles and there are wars, it makes me believe that things are going to get better, despite all the bad things going on in the world. With you talking about watching more Star Trek after this, I have a couple of recommendations: first, the shows are important, but are mostly episodic. I’d recommend doing them like popcorn in bed is doing them, where she has the fans recommend and vote on which episodes in each season. As for the order, you should probably do it in release order, so original series, movies 1-6(original run), next generation, Star Trek: Generations (7th movie), deep space nine, first contact (sometime around season 5 of ds9), and insurrection after ds9, voyager, and nemesis after voyager. Then Star Trek enterprise (prequel show), then I’d recommend watching Picard, followed by Discovery and Strange new worlds. There are also several animated series that are well worth watching too!

Unpopular opinion: I've found every Star Trek movie and show boring and sleep-inducing, but this one and Into Darkness I enjoyed thoroughly.

I'm not going to recap things that were already said, I'm just overjoyed you have seen this. (When Zach Quinto met Leonard Nimoy to talk about being Spock, Nimoy told Quinto "You have no idea what you are getting yourself into")

I was literally looking at my Bluray collection yesterday, thinking about rewatching this, and was gutted you didn't already have a reaction to it! 😅 Glad you enjoyed it. Karl Urban - He's one of my favourite actors, he's such a chameleon and shows up everywhere. His Doc McCoy here is SO on point, I urge you to watch some of the Shatner-era ST films, and you'll see for yourself! Zoe Saldana - I always chuckle that Gamora's academy room-mate has green skin 😂 The Kobayashi Maru test that Kirk takes in this movie was first referenced in ST 2: Wrath Of Khan, probably the best ST film ever made (which doesn't mean the others are bad, FYI), so watching the original films may give you insight into the callbacks - You'll be able to pick up on the crew easily after this introduction. Oh, and the guy that dies when they're trying to stop the drill on Vulcan? He's wearing a red uniform... Watch out for that 😉 I used to enjoy the original crew, though mostly through the movies - I grew up largely on the Next Generation series. I really enjoyed these reboot/redirect movies, sadly we lost Anton Yelchin (Checkov) a few years back, gone way too soon.

Stuart Brewster

^^ This! 😁 The first Star Trek movie (titled "The Motion Picture") is a little slow, and far from the best, but Star Trek II: Wrath Of Khan is essential viewing, IMHO probably the best ST film there is! And there are a few nods to it in ST: Into Darkness 😊

Stuart Brewster

You're totally going to become a Trekkie now, lol. I didn't get into Star Trek until the Next Generation series came out. The 411, lol, this is the (alternate timeline) story of how the Original crew, as in the first crew we were introduced to in the 1960's but NOT the first USS Enterprise crew, came to be. Additionally, this is the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 (the serial number matters when keeping track of which crew and which version of the ship is in use). This is younger crew than the original show because of the alteration of the timeline. Captain Pike is captain of the Enterprise for much longer in the original timeline. This crew would get together eventually in the main timeline, just the events here sped things up quite a bit that it did cause changes within the crew relationships, ranks, and positions on the ship but all the same main characters from the original show are present. Spock is more emotional and in-tune with his human side in this version. Spock and Uhura are not together in the original version. Spock and Kirk aren't trauma bonded like they are here. Kirk's dad is alive in the original timeline. Vulcan still exists in the original timeline. Its called the Vulcan Neck Pinch, lol. Additionally, Vulcans are descendants of a very passionate and rather feral race. So the obsession of controlling their emotions and believing logical thinking is the only way to exist is very merited. They also live a couple hundred years (think of them as space elves, lol) Btw, all Star Trek stuff is on Paramount+. Paramount owns all the rights so everything officially Star Trek is on Paramount+. Yes, that is the original actor for Spock, Leonard Nimoy. This is a fine introduction and so is the second one Star Trek: Into the Darkness, except for J.J. Abrams's obsession with lens flares in both (there is no need for everything to be so shiny and blinding, lol) but I'm honestly not sure what would be a next steps of getting into the Star Trek Universe after these 3 alternate timeline films. The way the show and the plots and the universe unfolds is done very well with release order rather than chronological order. If you do it chronologically, I don't see how you could experience all the connections because the story builds off itself based on what was revealed in the previous series. The newer stuff, which is a prequel to the older stuff, brings in totally new stuff that will never come back up when you watch the next series in chronological order. But if you watch them in release order, then you run the risk of losing your audience since there are a lot of filler episodes and the pace can be slower than what current generations are accustomed to. HOWEVER, lol, you will enjoy this universe. Its very smart and inspires very positive ideals. It has a rather utopian outlook for Earth and the human race in the next few hundred years. Where racism, sexism, and capitalism are practically absent from human societies. Its a very wholesome show that pushed a few envelops. The original series had the first on-screen interracial kiss on American television in 1968. As well as empowering women by putting them in positions of command and authority. The role of Uhura was one of the first recurring major roles, and most visible roles, featuring a black actress on American television in 1966.

IMO, watching a few of the original movies would make the experience of the 2nd film in the reboot trilogy better.... but watching the reboots without seeing the originals is okay...

Kevin Feige: "Hey this dad of James T. Kirk guy is pretty good, lets get him buff and cast him as Thor." "But this other actor from "War Horse" is also good, lets give him long blonde hair too, get them BOTH buff, and whichever one is less buff make him Loki." - not a direct quote

YodatheHobbit

This was a great reboot trilogy.

AdrianF

Please watch the next two films in this trilogy Vee ✨️

JT King

This trilogy is banger after banger.

Thank you so much for doing a star trek movie. Have you seen the originals from the 1980's?
