Kim shares a lot of traits that Walt did, and is now going on a similar path. Both fiercely intelligent and see that doing the right thing doesn't always lead to results, but taking corners does. She has always also - like Walt - had that side in her; she grew up in such an environment after all. And she's right, she makes her own decisions and never liked being told what to do, or be told that she only did something due to Jimmy's influence. The scamming brought out the dark side of her, the part that she enjoys to get away from the monotonous stuff she's been doing with the big firms, and Mesa Verde. She thinks that doing the pro bono stuff will satiate something within her, but its not enough; and with Jimmy turning into Saul, he excites and frightens her (in a kind of masochistic way) that she gets off on - as we see here where they take their talk about what they want to do to Howard, into bed. And even then post coitus, she still pushes this about Howard - its her pushing Saul on now. Earlier in the season we saw their relationship was at a tipping point after the Wexler v Goodman shenanigans. She resolved that by trying to get closer to Saul, as he's become ever more erratic, by getting married. The scams were the only thing they had left. Now she sees by him rightly - for once - questioning, if he's bad for her, and acting like he wants to leave before he damages or corrupts her further; and she responds with the meal and pushing on another scam, this time a big one; especially after her meet up with Howard in the courthouse. They want the Sandpiper money, and she thinks the best way to push this forward, is to bring down Howard, who has been in their way at times - her in her career, Jimmy more because of Chuck. Also Howard represents the elite, and these two supposedly fight for the little guy, so Howard needs brought down a peg or two. Right? The finger clicks she does back at Saul are reminiscent of when he threw it on her about changing his name to Saul Goodman; and both scenes are equally horrifying with suggesting where this could go.

2024-10-19 21:29:26 +0000 UTCI think the shenanigans always excited Kim. All the way back to scamming Ken Wins out of hundred dollar tequila shots, the excitement of playing those games and getting away with it has been balanced with a desire to do the right thing and choose the right targets. That’s why her uncharitable reading of Howard and a desire to start a pro bono practice are important for her turning this corner. She’s rationalizing a feeling that is actually fairly petty (she’s mad that Howard passed judgment on her relationship) into something that can justify the kind of havoc she wants to reek. Jimmy’s an interesting case here, because he mostly does these scams out of pure compulsiveness and fun, so he’s better able to see how weak Kim’s rationalization is. That, and recent events have made this not so much fun for him anymore. The entire scene is really intriguing, because I also think Kim senses that Jimmy is about to break up with her and immediately tries to redirect him to something he would normally enjoy… a good scam. This plan with Howard is similar to the marriage. It’s an ill-advised attempt to save the relationship; and in her own way, Kim is now playing Jimmy against himself, banking on the fact that he’s too addicted to scamming to walk away from a million dollar one.

2024-10-18 00:50:42 +0000 UTCAs others have pointed out, you being a fan of Howard by this point of the show is more common than you might think. It's interesting how this series pulls you away as the viewer to see each character's point of view through their eyes after some time has passed, as if to give the viewer a second chance to make up their mind about each character. Excluding Jimmy/Saul for those of us who already watched BB. One thing I find REALLY cool is that shot of Saul and Kim talking about the information about the hit on Lalo and the camera shows their silhouettes; as if to foreshadow that they're being kept in the dark.....aaaand on that note, see you in season 6!!! P.S. - your hair is a great shade for Autumn. I dig it!

2024-10-17 20:38:24 +0000 UTCJimmy isn't corrupting Kim...People give Jimmy WAY too much power. Kim is her own person. She’d find a way to express that with or without Jimmy. Yes, she’s been exposed to Jimmy and his ways, but clearly she’s okay with it. The stuff she’s not okay with, she doesn’t want to talk about with him. Kim has spent a lot of time trying to be a straight-laced person but she's titillated by the conning she enjoys with Jimmy. In turn, Jimmy is encouraged to become the person that excites Kim, which leads him further down the path to Saul. I think it's fair to say that neither is using/conning or pushing the other, this is just a result of two people in a relationship influencing each other. They're both driven to help the downtrodden, whom they feel a personal affinity for. They both dislike privileged jerks, especially the ones that underestimate them. They both enjoy outsmarting people and winning the case, in and out of the courtroom. It makes sense that they are encouraging each other to go further. The choice to destroy Howard's life is pretty malicious but I think there's more in play here. It's not so much about Howard as it is about what he represents. If Jimmy and Kim see the world as fundamentally unfair, it makes sense morally to work toward gaining the upper hand - becoming a wolf instead of remaining a sheep and helping others who've been screwed by a system rigged against them along the way. I think it could be fear of abandonment driving the relationship - neither of them really have anyone else and they've both been alone for much of their lives. Jimmy still wears Marco's ring. Kim's never had a stable home and family.

2024-10-17 15:55:04 +0000 UTCI love how much you love Howard! It's such a unique take and you see in him what most people don't see their first time watching. You're not wrong about him, there's just many ways of looking at his character. He is just as dynamic as Jimmy's character and there's much beneath the surface, just like Jimmy.

2024-10-17 02:50:02 +0000 UTCI agree that Jimmy is corrupting Kim and it's really hard to understand the mindset of both them at the moment.

2024-10-17 02:49:14 +0000 UTCWait who hates that you like Howard? Who hates Howard?? that's wild. Howard is great. And also Jimmy isn't fully to blame for how Kim is. She always had it in her. They were always scamming people at hotel bars.
