Vee, we tend to make dualities in our daily lives: A or B. We do the same thing with morality and ethics. We usually create two choices, see two sides or few sides, or are put in a situation of "having" to choose sides, ignoring more alternatives and possibilities, or seeing gray areas. For example: "Which side are you on? A or B?" For fear of negative judgment from someone, others, or society, Bla Bla Bla, we are discouraged or intimidated from saying: "I am not on side A or B because I do not agree with either or because the issue is more complex than simply defending one side and rejecting the other." When someone does this, they are usually criticized and judged negatively. Since you were little, you have often witnessed or been in this situation in the most varied contexts. In short, we grow up in a world of choosing sides or being rejected. And this is not something of our time. It is something that has existed since the beginning of human history. Of course, there are situations and issues when things are very clear and settled, and it is easy to express an opinion and agree or disagree. However, it is more a question of long-established general consensus and less of actually making a choice. (Even so, philosophy still debates and focuses on the idea that there is (no) method to reach the truth, the differentiation between truth and fact, that truth is (not) reached by consensus, etc.) Having a solid opinion and conclusion is HARD! 🫤 So. Let's talk about your doubts about L after these little considerations to keep in mind 😁😜🥰 IMO, L is not ethical or unethical but rather Aethical (non-ethical). Unlike the unethical (who acts against ethics), the Aethical is the one who does not consider ethics - as if it does not exist. L is focused on capturing Kira and does not worry about moral and ethical issues or dilemmas. Also, L can be considered amoral or perhaps immoral. The difference between moral and amoral is tricky and sometimes difficult to distinguish. To me, he is amoral since his central characteristic is indifference. He does not think about whether something is "right or wrong." (other tricky words lol) The police called L and began working with them, but he quickly began using his own methods and, strategically, gradually distanced himself from them. The police and the authorities were just a gateway and an instrument for L. His actions, choices, and strategies are strange because they do not fit into any ethical or moral basis, and you have a moral and ethical basis. At the same time, you do not doubt that his opponent is a terrible person and must be stopped as fast as possible. Furthermore, who besides L can stop Kira? Light's father is the symbol of a path with ethical and moral bases, but he is incapable of solving the problem. Add to those considerations that the anime does not purposely give other options. I believe these are the main points that create your conflicts about L. GOOD! That means you do not choose the easy and comfortable path I talked about. 🥰 Let's stir the pot 😜. L and Light have the common characteristic that the ends justify the means, so they move away from morality and ethics but differ in how, and their ends are also different. If L had the Death Note, what would he do with that power? Will he be the same? What are L's true colors? 🧐 We don't know. I'm here babbling without saying what I think. But say nothing is an easy way to add fuel to the fire and leave. So... I disagree with, disapprove of, and like L, despite the anime trying to make us have some affinity with him. He doesn't care about what is more important: stop the killing. At the same time, I disagree with, disapprove of, and like Light for obvious reasons. I refuse to choose A or B (Judge me!). I can't agree that L is better than nothing. There is nothing that could be classified as "better." At most, I would say that L was imposed as the solution, and so far, I'm not fond of this solution at all. As I said, having a solid opinion and conclusion is hard. 😁 Sorry for the massive text. 🥺

I'm glad you like the new opening. In my opinion, the ending song, Zetsubou Billy is even more fun, especially the full version. They're both by the same band, MAXIMUM THE HORMONE, which is just such a name 😂 Those songs probably started my path down the hardcore metal scene 👌🤘

This part of the show is wonderful, imo. The whole show is a philosophical debate and now we take a tangent to show character potential and how power corrupts even the most well intention-ed. L is basically saying which side of the philosophical question he stands on; that being similar to the train question; "you're driving the train and there is a fork in the track, one leads to 5 random people on the track that will get hit by the train; while the other has 1 person you know very well and care for. Which track do you choose?" That is the original question; however, here its more like there are 5 people in the way to 1 very evil person that will get hit after the 5 are hit, or you can hit the brakes and arrest a group of random people, hoping 1 of them is the evil person. Many times a villain will put the heroes into similar situations of very difficult choices. The point is to get people to see the complexity of choice and consequence. There is a common debate about heroes and villains. That villains are trying to fix a problem in society (by drastic and violent means, usually) while heroes are protecting the status quo, no matter how harmful it is to our society. Heroes use the veil of Justice, while Villains use the veil of Progress. Now, an easy out is that villains harm people, and heroes protect them. Using the idea that nothing will be fixed if massive amounts of people have to die. But objectively, that might not be true in all scenarios. This is what world leaders have to deal with. Hard decisions like these. There is no reward without risk, but is the sacrifice to high for the cost of the reward? I don't recall when i started to see the world like this but I do remember the change in me. One could equate it to a loss of innocence. One could equate it to opening the third eye. You can say its a cold hard truth or you can say its removing bias from the cycle of life and evolution. You can feel loss in this realization of yourself or you can find silver linings that you can see through the noise, now. Perspective is important but being able to adapt and shift your perspectives, at will, is how we evolve.
