A few notes while I was watching.. Back in '06, GPS was kind of a new thing, still. It wasn't very reliable and losing ones way and mind like this minivan husband in the movie was more or less the running joke of the new tech at the time. I only JUST noticed this time around that the contrails in the sky looked like tire tracks. xD McQueen's nightmare going on after the sun was coming up and he was almost awake was pretty accurate. It's in the several minutes before we actually wake that we enter REM and that's where all the dreams that we experience/remember happen. During the final race, on the first (or probably formation) lap they were winding side to side on purpose. That's a real thing racers do to warm up the tires to good operating temperature.

2024-08-10 02:42:37 +0000 UTCCars is definitely in the lower Pixar tier for me, I think most people that love it feel a lot of nostalgia for it but beyond that, I think it just kind of falls flat. I don't really love Owen Wilson in the title role, the message is kind of meh, most of the secondary characters are too cliché to the point of being stereotypes and it feels like they're too busy with adding in "oh look, here's this human thing, only car-ified, haha, how silly" all the time that there's no time for actual plot. The joke about classic Pixar is that the basic premise was always "what if ____ had feelings?", like Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish, Superheroes and now Cars. But what made them great is that they actually focused on the characters and their relationships and evolution. Before Cars, they never really bothered with spending that much time exploring the mechanics of the world probably because they knew that that's not that interesting. I think Cars is still kinda nice, it's sweet and simple and occasionally pretty funny, like it's not a bad movie. But it always represents to me kind of the beginning of the end of classic Pixar, like we still got great movies after Cars, WALL-E and Inside Out and Coco and even Soul to a degree rank among my favorites. But I feel like Pixar's output has just been a lot more hit and miss since Cars, and there's been a much greater focus on sequels, it's not banger after banger anymore like it truly kind of was before Cars. Oh and btw, please don't watch the Cars sequels. They are probably the only truly bad movies from the Pixar canon, just terrible all around and they mostly exist to sell toys, and it shows. And Mater was already teetering on the edge of Jar Jar Binks level of annoying in the first movie, making him the main character in Cars 2 was just never going to work. Truly the Minions of Pixar...

2024-08-04 01:54:52 +0000 UTCOne of my childhood favorites. There’s so many cameos and hidden details in this film that I cant name them all by heart, one I will state though is that The King is based off Richard Petty (he voiced The King too) a very famous NASCAR driver that earned the nickname “The King” and for very good reason. His Plymouth super bird (same car in the film) is famous for the capability of reaching 200mph and built to cut through air like a missile this beast was a force to be reckoned with. NASCAR banned it one season in but it was more many other reasons as well. Loved the reaction and can’t wait for the rest 🩵

2024-08-03 08:18:38 +0000 UTCCars is such a gem of a Pixar movie! A shame that you skipped through the actual credits sequences, though. =/ It served as an extended epilogue, and was much better than what the after credits stinger ended up being.
