This is a superb episode. I'll ignore the Werner stuff as hypocrite Mike kills him just to make himself closer to Gus; but the rest is top tier. We see at the start of the episode, where Chuck sponsors Jimmy as he gets his law license; then see how Jimmy warms up Chuck at the party so that they have a sing-song together Jimmy "the winner takes it all!!", Chuck "the loser standing small" - very apt lyrics for how it went with them at the end. Btw Michael McKean can sing! He was in the legendary spoof film, This Is Spinal Tap about a rock group years back, and has been in a band for decades too, so he knows his stuff, but he has a beautiful powerful voice for sure! Then they go back to the apartment, and Chuck does take care of Jimmy, like he did for him; showing that there was a brotherly bond, until it broke. And now we are here, where Jimmy cuts off any thought about Chuck from his life, even feigning grief at his graveside, and then looking to use Chuck's letter to get him reinstated. Another excellent scene, is at HHM, where he pleads the case for the kid who shoplifted and made a mistake, and is now trying to better herself; but that world only sees her as one thing, and Jimmy feels that as he knows he is out of place in this world, so will make his own path, to hell with them and the law. He's pretty good at selling the speech back at the appeal, until he gets to "and make the name McGill proud"; as we can feel it coming. However he sells them and Kim, and BAM! Saul Goodman is here! He won't yet quite be the slimy Breaking Bad lawyer just yet, more on that to come; but its not far off now...

2024-12-26 03:23:12 +0000 UTCSo many interesting scenes in this episode. Where Jimmy (now Saul at this point) was talking to Kristy Esposito about the scholarship thing; I think he was talking about himself when explaining to her about "they're never going to let you in." The tragic fate of Werner Ziegler; it's clear that Mike HATED having to do that to him, but there really was no other option; it really wasn't up to Mike. So we're heading into season 5 now! S'all good, man!

2024-08-03 00:48:16 +0000 UTCSo, Jimmy believes he has seen 'behind the curtain' for legal committees. As much as, they hold up the banner of 'doing good', when its really all about presentation. Jimmy did believe, once, back in the day. But he sees the system and its representatives as a con, a con that pretends its doodoo don't stink, lol. Honestly, picking out when Jimmy is being genuine and when he isn't is a crap shoot for us, and its suppose to be that way. For instance, Jimmy was probably genuine when helping the elderly, but then used that ground work to get his money a little faster. I don't believe he created the ground work to get the money faster, I think he just saw an opportunity. And then he back pedaled when that old lady got kicked out of her friend group. So we know he is against people suffering over his cons. That was genuine. Now that Chuck isn't Jimmy's moral disciplinarian anymore, Jimmy is focused on achieving his goals in the most direct path he is capable of. The name McGill will hold him back. Not only because of his brother's shadow, but because those committees will always see people like him as embodiments of their sketchy past. So he is starting fresh. I feel Jimmy was being genuine in that hearing. It was just after that meeting, he reflected on how amazing it flowed out of him...because he was being genuine. Jimmy is an opportunist, and not a sentimentalist. Opportunists are gamblers. They do consider a few consequences, but they care more about losing an a chance at the big score, the lotto win, than how bad things could get for them if they fail. But they also know, another opportunity will come around. The added bonus for Jimmy is that he is also very creative. Being an opportunist with the mind of an 'outside the box' thinker, and a charming silver tongue, you got Slippin' Jimmy, lol. We want to see Jimmy effected by events, to grieve for Chuck, to be remorseful, to have self-doubt. People want to see Jimmy's confidence take some time off, as it were. And momentarily, these things did happen but for far less time than most people would predict. And in each moment he bounces back real fast, sometimes being petty. For me, I think its just that Jimmy sees those things as a waste of time because opportunity knocks in the moment and might not ever knock again. Its a survival mentality of people that survive on conning. Taking breaks or time for yourself, especially when you're down, is just going to wasting energy, create miss opportunities, and allows depression to sink in, which wastes more time. In the con-artist world, time is money, taking breaks is money lost, as it were. But I think Jimmy just realized his power, here. Letting his heart speak for him opens opportunities for advancement. Trusting in himself that the words will come when they need to come will be is his key to success. The only difference from us and Jimmy is his motivation. He is pulling off what he needs to do and having the success story we want for our character, he's just doing it in a way, and for reasons, that are debatably immoral and self-destructive. And that is the problem we have, as viewers. We generally don't want an immoral person to succeed. That's because we know, there are consequences to immorality. Such as losing the people around you, like Jimmy losing Kim eventually since she isn't in Breaking Bad. Which is a thing to remember; every one has a past that isn't all roses and sunshine. We know Jimmy as Saul, and we know Saul very well. So we're just watching how Jimmy's choices lead to Saul, really. Everyone would have strong opinions on everyone, if we knew how everyone got to where they are today, lol...Or, maybe everyone wouldn't be so hard on everyone if we actually did know that about everyone. Because everyone's got a past, so maybe that's the real lesson. The cliche phrases, 'never meet your heroes', 'walk a mile in another man's shoes', 'you never know what demons a person is dealing with'. I bet every person here in this Patreon probably has a story of how they had a great thing but screwed it up some how.

2024-08-02 16:07:09 +0000 UTCYes, but he definitely treated him wrong. Jimmy always had that "Saul" persona but Chuck never really wanted to help him defeat that behavior! He endet up pushing him more into it by telling him that he can’t chance and should "embrace it"

2024-08-02 12:46:44 +0000 UTCThis episode had what is my favorite opening from my favorite show. It expresses a feeling that is almost nostalgic, in a way, for something that sometimes was, but will never be again. Its such a light-hearted opening that gets sadder the more you remember what most of Jimmy's & Chuck's interactions actually were. It's truly heartbreaking. Arguably more tragic than a romantic tragedy. These two were brothers/family, and its hard knowing how their relationship ends. I think about this scene, them two singing 'Winner,' all the time when I think of this show. I think about Jimmy crying in his car in the basement of HHM when I think of the death of Jimmy McGill and birth of Saul Goodman. I think that's the point he truly realizes that trying to do the right thing won't work for someone who is just looked at and labeled by their past mistakes. Prepare yourself for season 5, my favorite season. The wheels begin to fly off in every direction and it only gets crazier from here!

2024-08-02 07:25:58 +0000 UTCThis was as much Mike's episode as it was Jimmy's. Both have just taken big leaps towards what they will eventually become. The heat just continues to rise from here.

2024-08-02 06:55:23 +0000 UTCIsn't the parallel between Saul and Heisenberg so AWESOME btw? Like both characters just keep getting the stakes raised on them and every time they have an opportunity for doing things the right way they get punished, until ultimately they become the perfect version of what the world sees them to be

2024-08-02 03:20:59 +0000 UTCFrom the first season of "BCS", I wondered what could have happened along the way that results in Kim not being anywhere in "Breaking Bad". We know Mike Erhmantraut's, Gus Fring's, and Gale's eventual fate and we are seeing some of the events that lead us to that point. It feels like we are headed over the precipice with no way to escape the inevitable. As for your kitty, I would suggest that you make things easier for her to climb up furniture so that she doesn't have to jump up as far. I don't have cats now but over the years I've had 4 who have been spayed or neutered. All got through the healing process without tearing out their stitches. I had to make some adjustments with their feeding so that the cone didn't interfere with the bowls but other than that they all recovered just fine. They don't like that cone, though. I saw someone online fashion a flat disc with a hole to fit around the neck like the cone does and this seem to be a good solution so that their cat didn't hang up against furniture or corners of walls sticking out. A flat disc also doesn't mess with a cat's hearing or their whiskers like a cone does.

2024-08-02 02:56:25 +0000 UTCLol Vicky its so funny you mentioned jimmy's voice at the grave. I've heard people refer to that as the "1HP voice" and ever since I heard that I see it EVERYWHERE. Where you're pretending to be frail or hurt to induce sympathy

2024-08-02 02:49:58 +0000 UTCThis is the most tragic thing about Jimmy. He has tried time and time again. He's tried to move on from his criminal past and scheming behaviors, but that young girl was a mirror to him. He'll always be known as Slipping Jimmy. He can't escape it. Even though he has changed. It made him so resentful to Howard and those big time law offices. And he was definitely being honest about Chuck the first time he spoke. But for some reason, the truth wasn't enough for them. That must've been the breaking point. What does Jimmy have left? What has worked for him to get him everything he wants? Being Slipping Jimmy. Saul Goodman is the ultimate Slipping Jimmy scheme. It just makes Jimmy's story so damn sad. He's not a bad egg. He's tried over and over and at some point he decided it wasn't worth it anymore. Time to spite the big boys and get success the best way he knows how. 😅 I cannot wait for season 5 Vicky! There's still so much peak to come! 🙌

2024-08-02 02:32:33 +0000 UTCI believe that he cried in the car because his experience at the Scholarship committee showed him that, like Chrissy is just "the shoplifter" to them, he will always seen for what he did and so his plan wasn't going to work. As after that, he goes back and says to Kim how he'll always be "that guy" to the bar committee. Maybe the only time he has properly and honestly displayed negative emotion and it's over his concern of him not being able to become a lawyer again :/

2024-08-02 01:08:44 +0000 UTCRemember the scene in the car in parking garage, when Jimmy was actually crying. I believe that all he said about Chuck was genuine and he meant every word, but then put up the walls again and acted like he just sold it. My opinion at least, i might be wrong ;P

2024-08-02 00:54:46 +0000 UTCA very heavy finale! A couple of clever little things that were that have been picked up on: - In the intro Jimmy sings "The winner takes it all" and Chuck sings "the loser has to fall" which is tragic - Also in the intro, Kim says that Chuck will mingle with the ladyfolk "when he's ready" which suggests it's not long since Rebecca left him. That means in a short space of time, his wife left him and Jimmy became a lawyer. Not long after that his symptoms started to appear! - Jimmy kept Chuck's letter in his left inner-breast pocket, which is where they planted the battery on Chuck to expose his EHS. No love lost there from Jimmy. - Not only is the way they shot the scholarship scene quite funny, it also demonstrates that it doesn't matter what they said as votes were probably already pre-determined. Enter Saul! At the start everyone wants to see Saul Goodman but gets introduced to Jimmy & most can't wait for him to become Saul. Now, after 4 seasons of Jimmy, we're begging for him to stay and terrified by the emergence Saul!! You're right. The whole episode, Kim is trying to test Jimmy to get him to feel something, yet to no avail. He's fully beyond it now. He's Saul. Werner is the first person Mike has killed since moving to Albuquerque. He'd been so hesitant to pull that trigger, yet he finally has to pull it on a sweet man, a loving husband and, most tragically, a friend. Can't wait for S5!

2024-08-01 23:56:44 +0000 UTCIf you want to hear more of Charles McGill’s golden pipes, you should check out This Is Spinal Tap. It’s a hilarious movie that’ll help you appreciate Michael McKean’s acting *and* vocal range.
