Better Call Saul S4 Episode 9 | Full Length Reaction!

I'm really concerned about Werner... he can't KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS!!! It's just a recipe for disaster... and I don't want to give away too many things buuuuut if you are interested, I go in depth about this episode and my thoughts on it in the discussion portion of the video:') I just feel like so much is building up to the season finale and I don't want to jinx it!! One episode away before the season finale... lets see how this goes (I'm terrified they always hit us with some wild cliffhangers and gut punches in the season finales..)

Yeah he knows he doesn't fit into the established law world like Kim and the others do, that he "slipped into it like a cheap pair of shoes"; and Kim not taking an office with him feels like he knows he can never be her equal, and it gnaws away at him. After the hearing blows up in his face, something he's been looking forward to for the last year, it all comes out and he projects this onto Kim and they reach breaking point together. Now the only thing holding their relationship, is their love of scams, so both will do some scheming again, to get Jimmy reinstated. And it feels right, that as he accepts the Saul Goodman persona of himself, that he becomes a lawyer once more, due to shady dealings, which will be what he is known for going forward.

The Werner stuff is a slog to go through. Its one part of BCS that just doesn't work for me, all the time they spent mucking around scenes with that bloody lab. At least Lalo is now in the mix to freshen the Gus stuff up. Anyway, I'm kind of with Jimmy that its a bit saccharine that he has to mention about his brother, when its him getting reinstated. While he is in this mess because of the way things went with Chuck, this is about him putting his career back on track and shouldn't involve being all flowery about his now dead brother. THAT's insincere!! Also note before he goes into the meeting, he is going through the questions and how he'd respond - just like Chuck did before their trial... We can see how Jimmy and Kim's relationship is now hanging by a thread, and the only thing keeping it together, is their love of scams. And now Kim will once again, risk disbarment so that Jimmy gets reinstated as a lawyer. "Lets start with that"; get him reinstated, then try to fix their relationship is her thoughts.

I will say this, ever since the flashback scene where Kim and Chuck discuss the law while Jimmy looks lost, I’ve had the feeling that Kim is the actual reason he started the law. When he says, “That’ll be you someday”, I think he’s worried she’s going to leave him behind. I think he’s *always* worried she’s too good for him and he’s going to get left behind. The very next thing we see after that is Jimmy going into the library, presumably to start studying law for the first time. I think the whole reason he’s in law is because of Kim more than Chuck. That’s also why her taking this great job and not wanting to work with him stings so much. He’s always worried that his professional shortcomings will result in him getting left behind by her.

Slipping jimmy is smart, but slipping KIMMY? Absolutely diabolical genius

That scene with the reinstatement committee or whatever is so fascinating. Because you can kind of feel the insincerity, no? You can feel the performance of it all. But I think Jimmy actually for the most part didn't feel like he was being insincere. Apart from maybe the question on keeping up with the law because come on, Jimmy is not interested in constitutional questions or reading the bar journal, that's a Chuck thing, he obviously just did a bit of research for this hearing to be prepared for this specific question. But otherwise, I think Jimmy actually thinks he's being sincere, especially when they ask him about what the law means, a question he was clearly not prepared for and just had to speak from the spot. But it's so patently ridiculous to not mention Chuck, to actually pretend like Chuck wasn't a massive reason for why he became a lawyer in the first place. The fact that Jimmy thinks he's being sincere while answering that question in that way shows the extent to which he's unable to be emotionally honest even with himself. Also, that scene between Kim and Jimmy was amazing, Rhea Seehorn continues to give the performance of her life in this show. "Jimmy, you are always down" just hits so hard.

Yeah, him pressing down his emotions and steering closer to his Saul persona *is* the trauma response. He deliberately tries to turn himself into someone who doesn’t feel anything about it because he’s scared that if he allowed himself to truly feel Chuck’s loss it would destroy him.

Eric Wall

He is traumatized. When he was impersonating the pastor in the Huell case, he talks about Hurll saving people from a fire which was him going off script. He feels guilty and he almost went to see the therapist until he saw Howard was in bad shape. He's also still mad at his brother and refuses to give him credit.

Kim isn't 100% goody two-shoe, she and Jimmy have always toed the line with their scams. Since season 1 they would scam the people at bars. She's always had it in her, she just never wanted to mix it with her job. But they both love it deep down. Werner had a panic attack from just the time he has been in that he's been working. I don't think he was fearing the explosion going off as the charges weren't live.
