300 | Full Length Reaction!

Guys.. I adored this movie. It was intense, fun and a remarkable story to experience. I loved everything from the gorgeous cinematography to the plot and characters. It was a STUNNING film and incredibly moving.. please tell me if there are any other movies similar to 300 that would be great to watch:)))

Other people seem to have said it before so there is no reason for me to go into it, yes the movie is quite inaccurate but god damn its fun to watch, some of the lines and scenes are just so epic, you can just tell why they went down into movie history. Really enjoyed the reaction.

Good movie. Got to see it in theaters. A lot of complaints stem from "historical accuracy" of the movie, from people failing to see that the entire movie is told from the perspective of Dilios, a storyteller bringing morale to the Spartan army. Yeah it's very over the top, some of the lines are corny and there are gritty battle movies out there with more of a solid plot line (Gladiator, Braveheart etc.) But it's still a good movie. Will never understand people who don't like it.

Ew - didn't like this when it came out, don't like it now. Of course, I generally dislike anything and everything by Zach Snyder.

The Dingo

While I completely agree that animals shouldn’t be used in war the exception is Wojtek the bear who joined the Polish army in WW2. That guy was cool. I’m probably a 6/10 for 300. Its politics are pretty messed up and they keep talking about freedom like they don’t all have slaves. It does have a lot of good one liners. “I hope you live forever” is a burn because a Spartan’s greatest honour is to die in battle. A similar movie is The Northman which is just as stylised but in a different direction.

Wasn't expecting this Vicky awesome surprise 🥳 unfortunately I'm heading up north for the rest of the week so won't get to watch til the weekend but really looking forward to this one ⚔️🔥

I'm so happy you're watching this film. After I got the notification, I couldn't wait to get home and watch it with you.:)

Since this movie came out, anytime the team pushes an update to live, 'Prepare for Glory'.

Hello Vee, you wanted to know if there are any movies similar to 300. I want to recommend the movie "Troy" (2004) Starring Brad Pitt.

As for historically accurate, eh. The Spartans are highly romanticized and dramatized here. Their culture was highly prejudice and cruel to slaves. They often killed their young, either through the ritual or because of malformations. And the first born son was always exempt from the ritual since he was the heir of the family line. The Persians are highly embellished in order for the audience to hate the enemy. The Spartans wore breastplates and tunics for armor. Ephialtes did betray the Spartans but was not disfigured. They disfigured him in the story because of his betrayal. Same reason why British actors always represent the enemy in American movies (cough cough Star Wars cough cough), because of the Revolutionary War. We punish historical villains in our stories. Leonidas said "May you live forever" as a curse because Spartans find glory in dying in battle. The Spartan priests/oracle didn't oppose Leonidas. And no, the stuff about the oracle wasn't true. Oracles were rare and revered all over Greece. As in, protected. Oracles were highly drugged in order to speak to the gods but they were not historically known to be violated by the priests. Their connection to the gods was cherished thus not historically defiled. Defiling the oracles would presumably bring wrath from the gods. They were depicted as grotesque because they all sit around getting high, judging and giving predictions of fate based on prejudice, and not protecting the people. The negative outlook comes from that disrespectful point of view. There were actually around 7000 soldiers at that battle on the Spartan side, from all over Greece, and they fought just as bravely as the Spartans. It wasn't 300 that stayed behind to hold the line but 1000 soldiers (300 Spartans and 700 Hoplites from Thespiae). And movie leaves out why the Persians lost sea supremacy. The Athenians were master sailors and while the Spartans held the Hot Gates, the Athenians held off the Persian fleet. It was actually because of the Athenian fleet that Greece won the war. While there were a lot of Persian ground troops, there were way more in the fleet. The Athenians held off the bulk of the invasion force at sea. Although the Athenians saved Greece, the story is about the small group of 300 (+700) that held the front line as long as they could in a rather heroic fashion. That is why this story is over dramatized and romanticized.

V - "please tell me if there are any other movies similar to 300 that would be great to watch" Me - Conan the Barbarian (1982)!!! lol As for other films of a similar style: From Hell, Sin City 1 and 2, 300 part 2, Sucker Punch, Clash of the Titans (2010), Wrath of the Titans, Gods of Egypt, tv shows Spartacus and Rome, Justice League the Snyder cut, Troy, Immortals, Van Helsing, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, House of Flying Daggers, Sherlock Holmes 1 and 2 (the ones with RDJ and Jude Law).

I forgot about the unnecessary sex scenes; they largely cooled off around the mid-1990s as I recall. Before that point it was difficult to avoid the "bewb" shots in almost every major movie between the mid-1970s to the mid-1990s. Or so it seemed.

Personally, the ratings suffer some from recency bias... it probably got a solid 8 or 8.5 when it was new. As to accuracies, I offer one difference. The Spartans did not display quite so much "beefcake" as an army. They were pretty heavily armored compared to other Greek groups and definitely better armed and armored than the majority of Persians whose shields tended to be made of more fibrous material than metal. Also, the Spartans weren't very "progressive" as a group. I'm sure others will have more thoughts to contribute. Thank you for this enjoyable reaction.

Loved this reaction vicky! So my understanding, to answer your question about why he thought 300 would be enough; tldr he didn't. He wanted enough Spartans to occupy the hot gates and prolong the conflict as long as he could, to draw as much attention as he could. His hands were tied so he couldn't wage an actual campaign, so his intention was to do a couple things: 1) punch a big enough hole in xerxes army to demonstrate that they're not infallible, to empower the rest of greece with the confidence to resist 2) If xerxes was to directly attack the king of sparta, it would be considered an unforgivable act of war and it forces Sparta's hand to retaliate with its full force So essentially his intention from the start was to die, just to do it in a way that benefit Greece the most. THATS the actual most badass thing about this battle imo

you know so much about thermopoly. my favorite piece is the car

Check out Sucker Punch! You want more of the Snyder dark tone style that movie will do it. There's an interesting story under the action as well.

Inhale Burrito

Nathan Algren (Tom Cruise character ) tells the story of the brave 300 in The Last Samuri movie as a omen to how the final battle will turn out in that movie.

Oh HELL yeah, 300! Love this film. You mentioned movies that were similar to this; while this film isn't similar, and you may have seen it before anyway, it is another film where Gerard Butler is amazing in it. That film, is "Law Abiding Citizen."

WarriorPoet1980

Well there is a sequel to this movie that isn't half bad. It follows Themistocles and the navel battles happening alongside where the 300 fought. He was the real reason the Persians didn't just sail around. If you like the style then I'd recommend Sin City. Do NOT watch the "extended directors cut" version of sin city. Please I beg you not to. For some reason it decided to reorganize the story into complete segments and utterly destroys the pacing.

YukoValis

If you want another Z.S movie Sucker Punch is an amazing movie it is just that you have to think about it lil bit and put effort into understanding it and not just seeing the surface story but all the layers. If you are talking about movies that look like 300 then you should include Sin City movies and The Spirit movie that all have visual style that match 300 and are also based off Frank Millers graphic novels. I know you like D.C stuff and he also has some Batman content that you might enjoy as well.

Baron

Sin City is the same art style. Definitely worth watching if you haven't already.
