Not sure if you noticed it or not but when Hughie was at the orphanage, the little boy that teleported up to him was named Teddy Stilwell. Thatβs Madelynβs baby from S1.

2024-06-07 15:32:07 +0000 UTCI've seen recovery, and the relatability you have with MM is wonderful, but I think that because of your connection you didn't see what I saw. MM is doing the right thing, it's a tough road and he is doing great at navigating it. Like all people going through recovery and self-repair, they get impatient with themselves, expecting more progress than what they have already overcome. We're hard on ourselves, completely normal thing to do. But it causes us to push ourselves, which can be good, life doesn't flourish without stress, but pushing brings set backs and flare ups. And we can spiral if we don't do what MM and yourself did just now. We talk about it. MM did the best thing for himself and his daughter, he didn't pretend it didn't happen and went straight to his ex-wife to tell her that he is scared of what he did in front of his daughter, that he is scared of doing it again, and that he is crippled by the idea of passing on this condition to his daughter if he continues to expose her to it. You opened up and shared a part of your struggle with us. Both went to those that provide support and care, especially when being open and honest. MM wants recovery, badly, but he is aware enough to know that he still not out of it. He is refusing to lie to himself where he could have his cake and eat it too...until he falls apart even harder next time. He made the best choice. Recovery takes time, way more time than we want to give it. I'm recovering from nerve damage for the past 9 months. I'll get full function of my arm, wrist, hand, and fingers back eventually. I've seen recovery and this is it. Set backs and flare ups are part of it. Realizing he took on too much too fast, feeling enough shame to be humbled by it but not enough to give up is exactly the right road to be on for recovery. Taking a couple steps back so you can move forward just a little slower next time is also part of recovery. MM is doing the correct thing for someone in recovery. It's wonderful that a show puts this in there. Even Butcher was about to do the right thing with that phone call to Huey. Also, if you need evidence that MM is doing it right, just look at the polar opposite in Homelander. A man that DEFINITELY needs recovery but the moment he feels humility, he rages. You need to be humble to start recovery but the minute Homelander is humbled, he feels weakness, pathetic, he feels smaller than those he considers himself better than. Honestly, the fix for Homelander is simple. It's correcting the words he uses. He uses the word "better" when comparing himself to us. Better is subjective, it's a propaganda word. He has more skills, abilities, and talents, which means he is more capable, not better. It's an old saying, just 3 words, Language Structures Thought. The words we use control the way we think. If Homelander took the time to learn another language, he would be a better person than he is right now. He would be able to see more perspectives than just his own. For example, in English we say 'Pay Attention' because we put value, cost, and expense on Attention. But in Spanish the phrase translates to "Lend me your Attention" because they expect it to be returned. In German it's "Giving Attention" because it's seen as a gift. The simplicity in just changing a few words you use in order to rewire your thought processes. Neuroplasticy. It's a beautiful thing. Another good example, how society coerces behavior, as in the conflict between people's needs and wants. Often we put words on everything like "should", "suppose to", "have to". But if you remove these words from your life, you are forced to use the only words that can fill their voids, "need" and "want". When that happens you realize 2 things; 1, everyone replaces the word "want" with "need" waaayy too much because they don't "want" to sound selfish so by using "need" it compels compliance more, and 2, that almost everything is a desire of someone else being put on your shoulders because we only "need" a handful of things; gravity, air, water, food, shelter, sleep, income, relief, and help. Removing 'should', 'suppose to', and 'have to' from my daily vocabulary allowed me to be free of the judgement of others and society's distorted expectations. Language Structures Thought. It's how propaganda works so well but it's also how you defeat it. The hurdle with defeating it is that you also have to be honest. Fat chance Homelander will get there but that is why we see people as still being able to be "saved" way past when they should be. Because even up to the last second of life, it's still possible to alter the words we use to alter the thoughts we have. That's why we feel for the villains. It's only too late for them to change once they're dead.
