Better Call Saul S3 Ep 9 | Full Length Reaction!

Season 3 episode 9 of Better Call Saul here!!! HOW ARE WE SPEEDING THROUGH THIS SHOW SO QUICKLY OMLLLLL

Let me know your thoughts on the episode down below!! You guys say this series is insane in the last 3 seasons... well... we're getting there 😥😥😅😰 and I'm definitely scared.. Tell me what you guys think about this episode! 🥰

Comments

Jimmy was falling into petty crook-hood when Chuck wasn't in his life. He is disgusted in his father for being a soft touch, so becomes the thing that preyed on his dad. Whilst I believe there has been an estrangement and perhaps some animosity from Chuck over the years towards Jimmy, he does try to help him get on his feet - until Jimmy starts invading his world of law, which is when Chuck gets ill and we end up here.

Saltire

Jimmy becoming Saul is more on him, than it is on Chuck. I disagree about Chuck being overindulged as well, as he worked hard to get his standing in law and to build up HHM. While there is elements of narcissism that come from that world when the plaudits arrive, his world and ego didn't start to get the better of him, until Jimmy turns his slipping hands to the law.

Saltire

He does far worse as Saul later, but yes, this is the start of him falling into immorality.

Saltire

I actually don't think he's thinking about Kim at all in this episode, until he thinks the deal is done. His greedy side gets the better of him, and I feel he's only looking out for number 1 here - as ironically, so is Chuck here too. They are more like each other than they realise, these two!

Saltire

Jimmy is the lowest of the low this episode, ostracising an old woman with her friends, just to get what he wants. I'm glad you backed Howard in the scene between him and Jimmy though, as you are right, Howard sees right through Jimmy and is done with him. Kim has been overworking for weeks trying to keep the lights on in the office. Even though Jimmy is paid up, she wants this to work for him and since he's not practising, she bit off more than she could chew and ends up crashing her car. Its a masterful edit, just for a split second seeing Kim about to drift off, then BANG! And then there is Chuck suing HHM as Howard gently tries to let Chuck off gently, as everything is piling up due to Chuck's behaviour and illness. All because of Jimmy, with both Chuck and Kim.

Saltire

C'mon, dude, he had a plan that backfired. That's all. If those ladies had all communicated with each other, Irene would've pulled the plug and the elderylys would've received their money and everyone would've won. It was just another of Jimmy's plans that went awry. He didn't mean to harm them, you can see it on this face. C'mon, dude.

jeff

I was going to write this myself, PureGonzo, but yes! HHM can drag it out to make millions more while the Sandpiper residents make thousands, if they're still alive at that point.

jeff

When you finish BCS, I HIGHLY recommend the 2004 Battlestar Galactica. It just got put on Amazon Prime and it is a STAGGERINGLY good series that very few reactors have watched through.

Jim A

Yeah that's very true. This is part of what frustrates Jimmy so much. He sees the scams that other people are running and they are institutionalized and accepted so people don't question them, but absolutely HHM is trying to run the clock out on paying out as many of the residents as possible

Dale Diaz

But *was* Chuck actually right? Or was Jimmy simply playing into the character traits that have been hammered into his head by his petty, vindictive brother his entire life? Some food for thought. (I’m not saying either one is correct; it’s probably a combination of both. But Chuck obviously exaggerates how bad Jimmy is. Much of his hatred is rooted in jealousy, not facts.)

PureGonzo

*And* all the residents of all those retirement homes get paid too! Don’t forget that part :) The law firm is just dragging it out in order to increase their own commission; not to help the residents. The sooner they settle, the more of them will actually get to use those funds before they pass away.

PureGonzo

It's a big reason why I don't drive anymore - voluntarily :O

MertzRocks

You think THIS chicanery is bad?

MertzRocks

It's cool that you acknowledged the number that the fallout with Chuck did on Jimmy. It's a two-fold problem; yeah, it's messed up and morally low that Jimmy would gaslight old people the way he does in this episode, but in the bigger picture, I think part of this is Jimmy lashing out in a reactionary way after the straw the broke the camel's back with the Bar hearing. He was never accepted into "the tribe" and it's sort of an act of rebellion; I'll put it this way. You keep telling someone something enough times for a long enough time in their life? They might start to believe it.

WarriorPoet1980

to be SUPER charitable vicky! First of all yeah it's scummy tricking old people into bullying each other. But Jimmy's not *just* doing it for a payday. He sees how strung out Kim is, he's running out of options to come up with his share of the rent on the law firm. In his eyes, if they have to sell, Kim's out on her own and he feels accountable for screwing up her situation with HHM, so not only did he feel obligated to help her stand on her own, but he also feels like selling drives him farther away from Kim and puts them on a separate trajectory romantically. He's basically just pulling out all the stops to keep his dream alive while he waits for his license to renew

Dale Diaz

This is easily the worst thing Jimmy has done for me. In this universe that's saying something. It does seem like things are coming to a head for several characters but Kim is the first in line. The editing of the crash was very effective and I think many of us can relate to having microsleeps.

I feel like both brothers grew up being self-absorbed in their own ways, but at the start of the show, Jimmy has learned the importance of humility and thinking of others. Chuck, on the other hand, was an overindulged prima donna and narcissist who felt he and he alone deserved to be the center of attention. When Chuck stabbed Jimmy in the back, everything Jimmy had done to genuinely improve himself, symbolized by him being a lawyer for the elderly, got taken away from him and he had to fight back even if it meant fighting dirty, just to survive. When Chuck realized his little brother outfoxed him and that his own mask of respectability had been torn off, he stopped pretending to be other than what he truly was, a petty, vindictive, spoiled, angry man. Despite all the talk about Slippin' Jimmy, I feel like it was Chuck who dragged his brother down, not the other way around.

Thaddeus Winterson

Slippin Jimmy has returned. But he could have manipulated another person who deserved it and not Irene.

David Cansler

Truly wanted to punch jimmy in the face for what he did to that poor old woman. As petty and vindictive as chuck is , this was the episode that made me realize all the things he said about jimmy were right

Rey

Gosh, this episode really was firing on all cylinders, what with all of the different character dynamics in play: Mike meeting Lydia, Howard and Chuck's growing antagonism in the face of litigation, Howard's verbal smack down on Jimmy (Gollum indeed!), Hector's mounting hostility toward Gus and the cartel, Nacho pleading with his father..... that, and we got not just one, but TWO elaborately fun Jimmy schemes working in tandem with the mall sneakers ploy and rigged bingo game -- even if said schemes were among some of the most despicable he's pulled thus far. Finally, that Kim car crash was absolutely one of THE most effective jump-scares put to media; I went 'hoooo boy' the moment Vee said "she's got a bright future ahead of her" earlier on in the episode. o_O;

Patti Rey

Jimmy does a lot of bad stuff over the course of this series and Breaking Bad, but I really hate how he manipulates Irene.

Othorious

Oh man, This has got to be one the most evil things Jimmy does during the show. Its very hard to like Jimmy after this. Also this episode was a big W for Howard, standing up to both Jimmy and Chuck. He's definitely my fave character!

Tim McCabe

when you were asking about other show recommendations at the start after better call saul you gotta check out The Sopranos one of the best ones ever made and fun fact it inspired breaking bad to be made i saw in an interview with Bryan Cranston

Great reaction and post-comments! I agree that every character is going down a tragic path at the moment. Mike accepting officially tying himself to Gus, which will eventually lead to his death (God damn it, Walt!). Chuck's ego causing him to lash out at everyone. Jimmy tearing apart an elderly friendship group to get him money & Kim overworking herself to severe consequences! The way they shot the car crash was teased in 3x08 when Kim took the nap in her car. I really like it as that is exactly how it feels to fall asleep & be suddenly awoken. We get a further tease about the mystery that is Gus. Seems Lydia isn't just a connection @ Madrigal and has real ties to Gus. She did check out the Laundry with him so must be properly involved. Even after hearing that about Gus; for the good of his family, Mike reluctantly signs his name, & his death warrant :/ I agree with you that Chuck takes the insurance & retirement issues personally. He was embarrassed by his condition when he was utterly convinced of it being real, now his embarrassment is even higher and it's spilling out as vindictive rage. Poor Howard. He's definitely had enough of the Mcgill boys nipping at him left & right. Loved his snappiness at Jimmy. Fully deserved. Finally; Jimmy. Many say this is the worst thing he ever does as Jimmy, and even Saul! You rightly noticed that what he was doing did hit him a couple of times, but he pushed it aside, purely out of greed (though that greed is primarily so he doesn't let Kim down with the rent). It's certainly the lowest we've seen him stoop so far. FINALE TIMEEEE!! Things will never be the same

Point 1: You never sound bad, and you RARELY have your level too low - other creators I won't name often have this problem; you don't! ;* <3 Point 2: Jimmy is definitely wading through ethical (and maybe moral) grey areas! He CANNOT give any official legal advice. If Erin Brill even knew he was there, she'd go ballistic missile on him. Remember that Howard said at one point: "...straw that broke the camel's back." But what straw broke which camel???

MertzRocks

chuck sure can dish it out but not take it

neez duts

This episode was hard to watch...the parts with Irene were very upsetting. Irene is such a sweet kind person and Jimmy doing this to her was very hard to watch. Her friends are such babies, acting passive-aggressive like a bunch of pre-schoolers instead of talking like the adults they are. Poor Irene didn't deserve this treatment. Not from Jimmy, not from her so-called friends. Secondly, Kim's distress and overwork. Which ultimately culminated in crashing into the boulder. Her anxiety was lowkey but no less contagious throughout the episode.

Joe Lazarus

Post BB & BCS depression is real. But that's what rewatches are for 😄

LadyFinger

That's our girl!

When you finish BCS I highly recommend MR ROBOT, Its one of the only shows id say is better than Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul
