I feel like Avatar: The Last Airbender has such a kind, whimsical tone, yet has it's stern/moments rooted in realism and I feel like that really stood out in this one. 🥰 idk what it was about this episode, but it REALLY caught my eye 😊

the whole "filler" thing started with the bandwagon hate, it's just ingrained in people's minds that it's filler because that's one of the insults it fist got. filler episodes are generally when there's a certain amount of episodes they have to fill for their time block back when everything was formatted for TV, and don't have enough story to fill it and so they literally make a bullshit episode out of thin air. I have never heard any evidence of this being the case with this one, and I believe many people mean "bottle episode" when they say it and just don't know the difference. in which I can agree, it has it's own little separate plot, and doesn't move the story along very much, and if that's all you consider to be a filler than I suppose it is in your eyes. But not all bottle episodes are fillers, they are just off topic or side quests, and when someone dislikes them they generally call them a filler. And that's definitely the case here whether this was legitimately a filler episode or not.

2024-05-11 00:51:31 +0000 UTCA2R I have to disagree with it being filler, there are plenty of episodes that do just as little to progress the story, I feel like Aang does a lot of self reflection and learning not only about what it takes to become the avatar, meaning fixing little squabbles and not just the big things like the war. And learns that not everything has to be fixed with the avatar or monk attributes and that he can just do his best to bring people together even with a little white lie. Obviously in the scope of things these are useless things to touch on but so much of this show is stopping by villages that we never see again, to help people we never see again and do childish things like ride koyfish, if anything, he gets across the canyon so it progresses the gang geographically more than most of their little village stops lol. it's a bottle episode 100% as it doesn't move the main plot along, but I don't think it's filler. On the other hand I completely agree with you that it's just the "worst episode" of an amazing show, there has to be a most disliked, or a least awesome episode, and it's comparing this nothing burger to the rest of the show that makes it look so bad, however there's plenty of nothing burger episodes that are loved. and this is just the one that gets the hate because it's silly and the least action filled.

I also don't remember it being overplayed, not saying you're wrong about that aspect, but people definitely hate it. lol I'm just curious where you heard this so I can also look into that. it may be a heavily contributing factor in why people started hating on it, but there's most definitely a mob with torches out there to this day about this episode of people who are wholeheartedly hating on it just because others did, and no other reason.

Plus the whole style of the episode is very childish, and feels more akin to something you'd see in a less mature episodic show. It's considered bad because it's being compared to the rest of an 11/10 series. In another show it would be a good episode.

Most people annoyingly do it because its "the norm" and to "fit in" Like hating on Nickelback, but if you ask most people why they dont like it, they cant give a convincing answer. Its a good episode, I enjoyed it like I did every episode so far. No complaints from me and ive seen this show 3 times now. People are just sheep and blindly follow the trend of hating things without actually thinking about it. Id ignore them. Different ≠ bad. More importantly, you enjoyed it.

Not every episode carries the plot along, and not every episode needs to be a banger. if this wasn't in the show, there would be another episode that is currently liked that everyone hates because someone once said "this episode sucks, it must be a filler episode" lmao. sheeple with no opinion of their own hear something and repeat it as fact for the rest of their life. there are some episodes that should be considered fillers over this one, and nobody says a word. lol everyone gotta be a bandwagon hater.
