Better Call Saul S3 Ep 5 | Full Length Reaction!

THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF MY FAVORITE EPISODES SO FAR...... OMG

i LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED it this episode was seriously a work of art...

Comments

They are shamed to have observed this fall of someone who is deeply ill. And Jimmy humiliated him into that rave. For all Chuck has done, its way below the belt.

Saltire

Jimmy did steal from his father, but it was a bit of both from scammers and him. Chuck doesn't know that, and its part of the tragedy of their relationship as they don't understand each other.

Saltire

Nothing about Jimmy taking down a mentally ill person by humiliation? "You don't do that to your own brother" - no Jimmy, no you don't. Some "love" that Jimmy did here V... This episode is a tragedy and should always be treated as such. Chuck was right, the way Jimmy plays with the law goes against everything a lawyer should be. And we see an example of that with the theatrics here as he shames Chuck into snapping. Not cool Jimmy, not cool. Despite everything Chuck did, thats below the belt doing that to someone who needs help. I do agree with the camerawork though this episode (again!). The camera looks up towards Chuck when he's in the dock, as if he is lord of all he surveys. Yet at the end, its looking down on him and he looks small as he's humiliated. Sad.

Just 2 little criticisms, sorry folks. But first, this was a fantastic episode, one of my 3 favorites of the whole series, and I love the series. (I can't tell you which are the other 2 because they haven't happened yet.) 1. Kim was wrong when she told Page that this couldn't reflect on Mesa Verde. Mesa Verde was at the center of the whole thing. It could have reflected terribly on them -- it didn't, but it could've. 2. Kim couldn't be Jimmy's co-counsel because she too was at the heart of the whole thing. Jimmy says on tape that he did it for her -- even if the judges bought that Jimmy only told Chuck what he told him out of love, he still said it was for Kim. And Chuck said the same thing on the stand. That aside, an outstanding episode of television!!!!

jeff

Dude, she was just innocently helping with the dishes.

jeff

Chuck still believe Jimmy stole money from their dad, but it was their dad getting scammed

FatLittleButterfly

Up until this point, this was certainly my favorite episode as well. Keep em coming!

Donovan Sparks

Yup. This was a big mic drop episode. Nobody's buying Chuck's "physical condition" anymore.

Joe Blankenship

Chuck needed to be knocked down a peg. Not because of vindictiveness, but because Chuck's refusal to get medical help is effecting the lives of those around him in a negative way. His pushing, of his ex-wife, away with lies about his condition was a way to remove her from the abuse he was going to do while having this condition, subconsciously. He protected the one person he cared about more than his pride by kicking her out of his life. His subconscious knew he was going to be a burden on his loved ones by his refusal to get help and the lies (and his manipulative way of twisting the truth to rationalize his refusal) that he was telling himself. He needed to hit rock bottom in order to move forward. We want to protect those we love but sometimes they need to fall, hard, to learn a lesson. We enable them when we overprotect from that hard fall. Jimmy knew it was time. Jimmy suspected this condition was all in Chuck's head long ago. The hard part was not knowing if Chuck can survive this truth. Would he wallow in depression because now he knows he was, clinically, mentally unstable? Or will he bounce back and work the treatment programs? Most fall under the former. But here is the rub. Most that fall under the former don't have a support network. They fear who they really are or what is really happening to them and what they will do to others because of their vulnerability. Now we have to see if Chuck can forgive himself and Jimmy in order for him to let Jimmy continue to be his support. He accepted Jimmy as wanting to help him but Chuck didn't like accepting his help. Mostly because the lies he was telling himself but this animosity towards Jimmy always made him reluctant to accept Jimmy's help...except, when they were working the case together. Jimmy even said it after the entrapment and when he was helping Chuck take down the space blankets; "for 10mins my brother didn't hate me; forgot what that was like...". This is a side of caregiving for the mentally ill, and even for child care providers, that people don't want to see. The mentally ill abusing their caregivers. Its expected that the caregiver has to just take it, but that isn't true. The caregiver also has rights. Caregivers learn that abusive mentally ill people have to fall on their own hubris, as many times as it has to take before the mentally ill person learns the lesson. Its the only way the mentally ill can grow and move forward with their treatment. They have to choose to accept that they need help. Most of them hate that, mainly due to the paranoia and the trauma they have involving trust issues. Its nerve racking to see but its even more when you're waiting to see what they do next. Because, you hope that they now see exactly what they were doing. Then you have to wait to see if they accept it. If they don't, then the cycle repeats until they do, only now they might be under even more intense medical attention. I'm a caregiver to my friend. She has been struggling with her mental condition combined with addiction for 10yrs. I've known her for 8yrs, been her POA for 5yrs, and her caregiver for 3yrs; and last year we moved in together for the sole purpose to remove her from her environment and friends that kept her high and in trouble so we can find a treatment program and help. I almost went bankrupt but today, she's sober 6months, takes her meds everyday, never misses her classes and treatment, and just started a new job yesterday. Everyone abandoned her because of the abuse she would lash out but also because they weren't trained or skilled in helping others. As sad as that is, it was needed in order for her to be who she is today. They enabled her. Key tip: when someone is mentally ill, DO NOT indulge fantasies. If they walk around talking about how they are Angels, you shut that down and ground them back to reality. That's hard to do when you love them and want them to be happy, even for just a minute. When you indulge their fantasies, you become a part of their fantasy. And in those moments of reality they achieve, you are now seen as a liar, subconsciously in their eyes, for telling them what they wanted to hear while in their fantasy. You are now seen as someone that endorses and enables their fantasy; therefore, can't be trusted when they need to come back to reality. That is where Jimmy went wrong, sort of. Jimmy's natural instinct as a conman is to encourage the lie we tell ourselves. But he tried to get Chuck to listen to the doctors (a little later than never though) but all the enabling he had done before had built a pattern in Chuck to believe his own lie. However, Jimmy didn't abandon him until Chuck decided to destroy Jimmy's life for the sake of his own disillusionment fantasy. And Chuck has a huge rep as a lawyer, so huge that this review board (not the actual legal case against Jimmy btw, we should still have the charges to deal with in court) and Howard were still enabling his de-illusion. Jimmy had no choice if he wanted anyone in that room to take him seriously for all that he had done as a caregiver to Chuck. Caregivers that lash out once or twice because they have had enough of the abuse they get everyday, get a bad rep. Jimmy's lashing out was a reaction to Chuck's betrayal for entrapping him and Chuck's refusal to get help after all the support that he has given Chuck. Not proof that Jimmy is an abuser of the legal system. Remove the abuse he received from the scenario and you'll see that Jimmy doesn't ever do that kind of behavior that he is being tried for (the B&E and destroying property, i mean. He still defrauded his brother, lol, but that's actually not on trial because there isn't sufficient proof; he just isn't violent and doesn't deserve disbarment over this). Therefore its a reaction to receiving abuse and not a pattern of abuse caused by Jimmy. There has to be a pattern in order to establish a caregiver as taking advantage and abusing the ill. But people see Jimmy's lashing out as the real abuser because sick people get a blank pass and indulgence; and Chuck has a massive rep with powerful/wealthy people. Chuck's refusal to get help is hurting jimmy's life now, therefore Chuck needs this slap in the face. He not only had to knock Chuck down a peg or two, but he needed Chuck's enablers to see what they have been ignoring about Chuck's condition and all these "special considerations" they have been granting. This is a good day for Chuck, even if he doesn't see it that way yet. Jimmy used this moment to as a smoke screen, for sure, but he is getting unnecessarily railroaded for literally doing the right things, albeit, in the wrong ways. But those wrong ways get around all the red tape. Its, almost, no different than taking advantages of loopholes except that loopholes are usually legal but unethical. Whereas, the way Jimmy does things is illegal yet ethical...as long as he doesn't get caught.

Raptor

Mentally ill ≠ crazy though. There's a big difference.

Lorenzo Baxter

Chuck is a Boss Battle? LMAO! I love that you said that so much! I look at every struggle in my life as JRPG/SoulsBorne video game boss battles! LOL!

Raptor

He quite literally IS crazy… like, by definition. Haha. I wouldn’t use derogatory terms like “crazy” or “insane” to describe him, but he most certainly is clinically diagnosable as mentally ill.

PureGonzo

not gonna lie but id be annoyed if someone was following me about the house on their phone.. like why not just stay in that room and finish your call?

neez duts

Immediately after Chucks monologue, you can see the reactions of most in the courtroom and none of them look happy with what just happened. I think Chuck was asking for this to happen the moment he started trying to play Jimmy at his own game. But, even Chuck may have just realized he has an actual problem. This is a masterful episode and still one the best.

JeremyOnDeck

Sorry, but I'm all about the petty...Chuck got what he deserved 😂

David Cansler

There it is! Of the several standout episodes in this series, this is one of them! It's interesting some of the facial expressions that Howard makes when Jimmy is doing cross-examination. Almost expressing surprise and a sense of respect for Jimmy, or at least, that's how I interpret it; others may view it differently though.

WarriorPoet1980

One of the best episodes in modern television

duffmanx2000

I know you don't like Chuck, but I feel for him. He's literally not crazy at all. Having an illness that's psychosomatic doesn't make him insane. He needs help for what he has, and he deserves it. Chuck does care about Jimmy, but there are severe issues between them, being jealous and angry at Jimmy for being devious and stealing from his parents when he was young. Like, by all rights, Jimmy shouldn't be practicing at all. He has cut corners and broke the law repeatedly. Chucks monologue wasn't about feeling. It was truth. Jimmy did all of those things. We take Jimmy's side because we know him more and we have more history. But Chuck is literally right here. 😅 And Jimmy just manipulated events to make Chuck look insane. It's a never ending cycle of anger and bitterness, between both of them. But Jimmy isn't some saint. The ending shot with the Exit Sign is peak though. Everything crashing down on him as Jimmy's big game pays off and humiliates Chuck publicly. There's a clear cut turning point in this show, everything Pre Chicanery and everything after. You've entered into another side of BCS, Vicky! Can't wait for more reactions!

Lorenzo Baxter

Jimmy handed Chuck his ass on a platter 😂 The EXIT sign shot was great. I hope we see it again 🤭
