I feel like I can watch it all over again and it would be an absolute treat. This is such a beautifully made film and the way that things just sort of piece together so perfectly... UGH. I LOOOVEDDDD ITTT!!!!

Andy is one of the most unique characters I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing in a film and you can't help but love him. He was different. :)

I TRULY hope you all enjoy experiencing this with me, because I loved it.

What S Elphick said. I did you a disservice V regarding your BB reaction. You knocked this one, and some others (KK, BTTF) out the park.

AdrianF

One of my favourite movies of all time

S Elphick

V! I've been watching your reactions since 2020 and have been waiting for this one! Great watching this with you and a great reaction to this masterpiece. WOOO!

You should definitely read up on the Development of this film. There were 10 actors that were considered to play Andy before they arrived at Tim Robbins. It was because of Robbins that they got Roger Deakins as Director of Photography, who has been DoP for most if not all of the Coen Brothers films, Skyfall, Blade Runner 2049, and 1917 to name a few. Morgan Freeman was suggested by producer Liz Glotzer despite the book describing him as a pale white Irishman with red hair. Which makes the line "Maybe it's because I'm Irish." even more hilarious. And you can visit the famous tree along the rock wall in the first Red Dead Redemption and there is a treasure chest hidden there. One of my favorite easter eggs.

Back then, large pipes would have been made of terracotta, more likely than metal. Thus the stone breaking it fits well.

90's cinema! This movie is indeed a masterpiece.

WarriorPoet1980

That was awesome Vicky this movie gets me every time, the narrations from red and brooks really add so much to this movie and the score is incredible too . This is indeed a masterpiece in everyway I can't say enough good things about this movie . Sad tears for brooks and happy tears at the end just a beautiful beautiful film thankyou Vicky for reacting to this you were wonderful ๐Ÿซ‚

Ian

Yes I know!

MertzRocks

Always a good movie to watch. So cathartic. Thereโ€™s another 90s prison movie that I think youโ€™d like. Itโ€™s called Sleepers. Itโ€™s even more of an emotional roller coaster but it has the most stacked cast of all time. Brad Pitt, Dustin Hoffman and Robert DeNiro (and so many more). Itโ€™s heavy but itโ€™s incredible.

Jacob King

Did you know DUNE part 2 is out online now, hint hint!!!!

Matt

Haven't seen this in so long, definitely have to give it a re-watch with your reaction, thanks V ๐Ÿ˜

Matt

Both by the same director.

LightsCameraJake

Yep. Movies don't get much better than this. It used to run on TV all the time in the 90s and every time you saw it was on, you'd end up watching it through to the end. It takes you through such a wide range of emotions and gives you a really satisfying ending. And I actually just rewatched it about a week ago, but was still excited to watch it again with you. Its one of my favorites to see people react to. It's like you're joining the club where we all just love this movie.

Joe Blankenship

Thanks a lot for watching this vee. Been in a rough spot, this was really cathartic

Dale Diaz

I saw the family guy parody before I saw this too lmao. Also in the book they said that red got the murder charge when he fled from police and accidentally crashed into a family

Aiden

Vee, Andy is the type of person I admire most in the world. His happiness and inner peace are helping people and making them happy. I love how Andy shows small attitudes that bring freedom and hope to prisoners by giving the humanity that was taken from them, and with that, the film shows that there are different kinds of freedom. Not being alone and having real friends is one of them. Andy didn't forget Red had lost hope and purpose and gave it back to him. It probably saved his life. I love the end of the film, with the two great friends hugging each other again, with the Pacific Ocean as a metaphor for the past being left behind (forgotten) and the dream of freedom being the reality and life of the two friends. ๐Ÿ’–

Right after this I went and watched your reaction to The Green Mile - which, somehow, I hadn't seen yet. Both great reactions to two of the best movies I have ever seen.

MertzRocks

This would have won Best Picture that year if it wasn't for some movie called Forrest Gump and it also had to go up against Pulp Fiction...1994 was a great year for movies.

Correction: Faculty of Law = Law School Great question! I put it this way (criminal system) because it goes beyond the judicial system. It encompasses culture, theory, doctrine, how society thinks and whether on the subject (or even thinks at all), how people act when faced with crimes and non-crimes, public opinion, politics, etc. That's why I mentioned, "It can be in court, in a discussion, in a comment, on the internet." This is not a contemporary problem but a problem since the beginning of humanity. I'm not a criminalist, but one of my best friends is. His area is domestic violence (crimes against women). We see laws being created to protect women, judges arresting criminals and abusers, giving protective and restraining orders, and yet, in addition to the failure of the judicial system, which exists all over the world, every 8 hours, a woman dies as a victim of femicide (this is the statistic in the U.S. last time I checked). In Brazil, it is every 6 hours. And it all starts with verbal violence. The woman suffers in silence because society creates an environment, a "reality," in which it makes the woman herself think that it is "just" a couple's fight, that it is a phase, that they are in a toxic relationship in which the partner will change. (In addition, they never change. Not even when they move away; it's part of their personality. There are several cases of the couple reconciling after decades without seeing each other, and everything starts over again, or even worse. That's why every woman is advised to stop any kind of relationship and communication with her abuser or alleged abuser forever). There are cases of women lawyers who are victims of femicide. Yes, Lawyers! The criminal issue begins before the justice system. In these cases, the fault is not with justice or with the woman who is the victim; it is with culture, society, people, and everything I have already mentioned and much more... That's why I say criminal system (in fact, crime arose before the justice system in the history of humanity). The issue begins well before it reaches the justice system. And even when it gets there, it doesn't resolve the matter even when there is condemnation. I'm taking domestic violence crimes as examples, as I know them better than other crimes. You can apply it to other crimes as well, given that many aspects are practically the same regarding the subject, which goes beyond the justice system. An easy example that starts before justice enters the picture is racism. I'm also taking your comment as an opportunity to talk about a severe subject, even superficially. Thank you for that, and I'm sorry if you, Vee, or anybody else understand that it's inappropriate for me to do that

Daniel Almeida

$10 in 1947 is $145.27 today moneyz

Dale Diaz

Yay, this movie will be the perfect "too tired to go out and instead lay in bed and chill on a Friday" movie for me to rewatch.

YodatheHobbit

I will be watching tomorrow and will also be snacking Vicky ๐Ÿ‘ snacking sounds which I never notice anyway tbh I don't mind at all so you carry on snacking away vee cuz if it makes you happy I'm happy too ๐Ÿซถ

Ian

Can't send you enough hugs for this one. Thank you V, now I have to prepare myself to cry later when I watch this. :)

Derder

Pleasant surprise today.

Michael Labs

Didn't notice any extra noise.

Quite a few of the best adaptation movies have come from Stephen King stories. Stand By Me is another. Also The Shining is a good one. Some weren't as well done, at least imho...

MertzRocks

This movie is special to me and has got to be in my top ten favorite movies ever. Also, my DVD copy is something special as well. This is a weird but true thing: My LG BluRay player from about 2004 also plays DVDs and CDs (as most do). Well sometimes when I put a DVD in, it 'freezes', which means NO buttons on the player or the remote work at all, including power. I have to cut the power (turn the power-strip off and then back on) and then I can try again. Often it freezes over and over again when this happens BUT! For some reason, if I put in my copy of Shawshank, it works again. Over the last twenty years, I think that disc DIDN'T work only three or four times. P.S. Snack away, V!

MertzRocks

You meant to say, "criminal justice system," I think.

MertzRocks

If it was, I didn't notice.

MertzRocks

I lost count of how many times I watched this movie. It's in my Top 10. It brings up so many real and timeless questions. One of them is that facts and truth are not the same thing. It can be in court, in a discussion, in a comment, on media, on internet.... Judging and condemning someone is easy. Being someone's executioner out of spite or fun is also easy. Knowing the truth and being fair is the hardest thing in the world. It's always good to see this film again. P.S. At the Faculty of Law, many agree that the criminal system was born bankrupt for many reasons and this film shows a lot about that.

Daniel Almeida

I think snacking is absolutely okay in your uncuts, but I think you should have an mute button when you do eat crunchy food, or edit out the sound of the crunch parts. I personally find it cringe. This isnt just you, its pretty much a pet peeve to any content creator I watch either on twitch or reactions.

LightsCameraJake
