Better Call Saul [S1 EP 5] | Full Length Reaction

Comments

Yeah thats a good point about Jimmy listening to Kim a lot, these two are two peas in a pod and get into some mischief!

Saltire

Troubled more like.

Saltire

Dick

AdrianF

$5 dollars or not he still took her paper without her permission.

Tajwar Ishan Haque

Now I know you've at least watched the first season... 100% Chuck's disorder is his anxiety about Jimmy manifesting itself in a strange way. It started around the same time Jimmy passed the bar.

Edward Garrity

It would be a unique experience to watch this before BB, but to get the full effect I feel you need to have seen BB first. Besides, finding the connections between the two is half the fun! I am still finding out connections because they flew right over my head on the first watch.

jeremykg14

Talk about Breaking Bad all you want. It all ties in.

Doc Holliday

Nobody watching this show HASNT seen breaking bad, its okay to talk about it. Either you do or the comments here will anyway. You cant watch BCS and expect people NOT to talk about what happened in breaking bad so you might as well.

LightsCameraJake

I would have called it Alpine Shepherd Bo

Dustin

Maybe it is a different place but it has easter eggs in the background https://www.reddit.com/r/betterCallSaul/comments/2xxppf/bcs_bb_nursing_care/

Matt

WARNING THIS HAS SPOILERS but this is where I read it. https://ew.com/article/2016/04/22/breaking-bad-betsy-brandt-marie-better-call-saul-cameo/

Matt

isnt this the sandpiper crossing nursing home and not casa tranquila?

neez duts

That "fact" has to be made up. Marie isn't even a doctor, she's like a med tech for a radiologist. And she works in private practice, not in a hospital. Who would ever think that that casting would work and would make sense and who would even propose it?

Christophe

Precisely, furthermore, I don't like wasting time on a film or TV show or game or book so I welcome spoilers too. I got crap to do. Save me some time and I'm grateful. Or I'll be like "oh, okay, I'll just wait until it's free or discounted, then. thanks." Saving me time, money, and I get to let go of the tiny bit of FOMO I was feeling. Win, win, win.

Raptor

Definitely. I already don't really love when people watch El Camino immediately after Breaking Bad (even though I get it) because things like the return of Walt and other characters was such a big deal when tht movie came out because we were already many years and a few season of BCS since we saw those characters. Watching El Camino now immediately after BB, it feels kind of weird that Walt gets this big moment, this big entrance, if you don't know about the context. Because the scene itself with Walt is pretty boring and forgettable, it was just about getting Walt back for the first time after so long.

Christophe

Agreed, well put. I have in the past watched like video essays that also mentioned shows that I hadn't seen yet and I didn't want to make the effort (or it was impossible because of the way the video was written) to avoid the spoilers, so I just listened anyway. But then when I went back and watched those shows I didn't remember anything about those spoilers because talking about a show to a person that hasn't seen it, mentioning characters and plotlines and all that when you have no idea what they're talking about, is just too convoluted to remember.

Christophe

Yeah and it's so unsatisfying xD I almost wish that they then also renamed every other episode of the season because this one sticks out like a sore thumb now

Christophe

Kim is so great in this show i love kim

Jergin

Dont worry a bout bringing up BB remember the black and white sequences are all taking place after BB so it is intended vieiwing for anyone to watch them BB then BCS

Rey

At a certain point it's going to be impossible to not bring up BB. As an audience member, we have been on this journey with you. I think it's better to talk about the show assuming we have already watched BB. Regarding Chuck, I had a co-worker with the same problem. It wasn't electricity, but the waves/fields created by wireless devices such as phones, bluetooth, wifi, etc. caused him to have pain. He could work on a computer at his desk but he needed a divider lined with foil to protect him. Like Chuck's space blanket. The only light he used was a salt lamp that was supposed to help. He worked in a room by himself for a long time but after a year I moved in with him. One time somebody forgot to leave their phone outside and he started feeling sick. Another time somebody brought in a device with bluetooth turned on and he had to go home that day. On both occasions he had no way of knowing about the devices. I don't know whether the problem is physical or mental but that is what I experienced.

Jorge Hernandez

Brother don't spoil anything, let her enjoy the story as it unfolds

Mathieu Paquin

This spoiler bs is infectious. It's patreon, V. Talk about breaking bad. You're only watching Better Call Saul because of Breaking Bad. By the time anyone watches this THEN goes and watches Breaking Bad will have forgotten of the tiny mentions you make. Spoiler bs is ridiculous. Besides, there is a statue of limitations on spoilers. If a show or a movie is 'X' many yrs old, then yelling "spoilers" is crybaby stuff. Psychologically, spoilers have never effected a person's enjoyment of anything. Only their attitude effects their enjoyment. Spoilers do nothing because, again, the human memory isn't that good. Catering to yell-y internet voices increases your anxiety at the expense of strangers because now you have to walk on eggshells while they feel happy and have their post-nut bliss for being enabled. It's a narcissistic power trip, plain and simple.

Raptor

About the title: every episode title in season 1 ends in O. This one was gonna be called Jello but they couldn't get the rights. So they just called it Alpine Shepherd Boy instead

Dustin

Please DO mention Breaking Bad. It's been out, plus you have all the reactions for it. No reason for anyone on your channel to watch this first in all honesty. BCS isn't just a prequel, it also shows post BB scenes later on. It is 100% meant to be experienced AFTER BB. The little Easter eggs and references sprinkled throughout enhance everything from the show itself to your commentary and reaction if you pick up on them.

Amyntas

Here we learn that Chuck's condition is mental, not exactly physiological as the cause, but it does affect him in that way. We learn how smart and intelligent Chuck is, and yet, he has a psychological condition. And why is Jimmy enabling it, out of guilt? In previous episodes we saw Jimmy imply it was his behavior that caused Chuck to stress out. No one, not one person, nobody should be watching Better Call Saul without watching Breaking Bad first. This show enhances and makes better the parent show in ways you have not experienced yet. Little details and certain things in this show mean nothing and don't carry the same weight if you have not seen Breaking Bad and they are presented that way, not referring to the storylines in particular as they stand on their own in this show, or they can work the way prequels work. In other words, referencing Breaking Bad ENHANCES your reactions and commentary as well, and many people are looking forward to that, seeing you make the connections and how things relate to the original show, as Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan intended from season to season in this show. It's half the fun of the show, even if it stands on its own. Saul is as much Gould's baby by the way, he often gets dismissed.

David Caine

I personally want you to talk about Breaking Bad related things if they pop up in Better Call Saul. Just like the retirement home ("Casa Tranquila") from this episode which is the same as the one in BrBa. The diner near the end of the episode where Mike was eating is the same as the one when he was meeting Lydia for the first time in BrBa. There will be lots of places you notice from BrBa would be a shame if you cant comment on it.

Slaizio

Yeah, Chuck's condition is in his head. And he's so smart, he's able to convince himself and other people that it's a real physical condition. But as we saw, that hospital bed was on and running and it didn't bother him at all. Also, if people are watching BCS without watching BB, they messed up.

Joe Blankenship

Fun fact apparently the doctor in this episode was going to be Marie Schrader but they thought it would distract the importance of the scene too much

Matt

There's nothing wrong with talking about Breaking Bad and references of course but I will say this. It's important to also kind of take Better Call Saul as it's own thing. Take the show for what it does that's unique, don't just relate every little thing back to Breaking Bad. Of course, you can't do that fully, because it takes place in the same universe and all, but yeah just keep that in mind. Really excited for the next episode Vicky!

Lorenzo Baxter

That nurse character is a cool easter egg, never noticed that

Matt

DUDE you HAVE to relate things back to breaking bad. It makes this whole experience of watching your reactions way more rewarding to see you make connections. We saw BB with you and now were seeing BCS with you and thats the order it should be watched in so yes please relate stuff to BB without worrying about a small percentage of people who havent watched BB

thomas bosson

And yes that actually is the same nursing home from breaking bad but it doesn't really have any significance to the story, just a little fun callback, the show is full of great Easter eggs for breaking bad fans

Matt

I think even if you didn’t talk about Breaking Bad, we would. As the show goes on there’s so many Easter Eggs and references that it becomes nearly impossible to fully appreciate the show without remarking upon how well it “fits in” with its predecessor. The real question is how much do *you* want to be reminded of things that happened in Breaking Bad? For example, if the character Nacho had been name checked in Breaking Bad, would you like to be reminded of that?

Eric Wall

BCS is a BB spinoff, so it is absolutely assumed that you have seen BB when watching, and it is written with that in mind. This gets more obvious later. All that being said, it's your channel so you watch it and comment however you want! Probably 90% of people watching these reactions have seen it and are only here to see your reaction to the show anyway!

Josh Noe

Yes it is totally okay to talk about and relate things in this show to BB because one of the things this show does so well is add extra layers of depth to the BB story. The comment section will also have many BB comments pointing out easter eggs when they occur. Such as yes you were right that is the old folks home where shit happened, the diner Mike went to is the one where he would meet Lydia and the nurse who tried to stop Jimmy turning off the lights was the same one who stopped Jesse seeing Brock.

Huffster999

Daughter-in-Law. And yes, it was designed to be watched after BB and you get the best effect that way.

Tim Martin

Yeah. Talk about Breaking Bad. It's relevant, and I think most people would expect it. 😊

Neil Bullock

I think it’s totally fair to just watch the show and discuss it as if it’s a sequel to Breaking Bad, which it basically is even though the story starts first chronologically. There’s some debate about whether or not it’s “okay” to watch BCS before BB, and my honest answer is no; the writers of the show(s) are telling this story assuming that you’ve seen BB. I don’t want to spoil anything, but in time you’ll see how/why.

Zack Rapp

Absolutely you can talk about Breaking Bad
